Ruby Princess - Dining question

My parents will be sailing on the Ruby Princess in September (Western Mediterranean). Their cruise is 12 nights and then counting pre/post cruise, their trip is 19 days.

Is it true that if they have dinner in a specialty restaurant on formal nights, that they do not have to follow formal dress code but the resort casual dress code?

They are trying to cut down on how much they'll have to pack.

Thank you

We were on the Ruby at the end of Feb. and Sabatini's would not permit a gentleman into the restaurant without a jacket. It seems to be a rule that is not always enforced depending on the Princess ship and cruise - But my recommendation is that if someone is counting dining in one of the restaurants rather than buffet on formal night -it is best to bring along at least a sports jacket for men and something suitable for women.
