Checkmate1955 Posted April 18, 2009 #5 Share Posted April 18, 2009 it shows both dates... one is now/current/2009 and the other may be an older article... 2008... possible reprint of an older article... so two dates?
negc Posted April 18, 2009 #6 Share Posted April 18, 2009 it shows both dates... one is now/current/2009 and the other may be an older article... 2008... possible reprint of an older article... so two dates? I almost missed the date when I read your post and thought that they had done another about face. Unfortunately the 2008 article has been superseded by a news report in the Royal Gazette last month which indicated that opposition to the casino issue has forced the government to withdraw their proposal to allow cruise ship casinos to be open while the ships are docked in Bermuda. Unfortunately, it appears that most Bermudans hold one of two opposing views when it comes to cruise ships and their passengers. One large group looks to make the island more welcoming to cruise ships and cruise ship guests, while the others believe that ship passengers contribute far less to the Bermudan economy than do tourists who fly to the island, stay in their hotels and guest cottages, and eat in their restaurants. They typically object to any measures that would bring more ships and cruisers to Bermuda and apparently they are a strong enough lobbying group to frustrate moves by the government to be more open to cruise ships. So, for the time being at least, casinos will remain closed while we are in port.:(
