Booking ON Board Credit - Update

I am sure that this offer is only for U.K based passengers who have booked with Princess.co.uk in England. As our rate for the £1 has fallen to $1.42 with the present economic crisis, the fact that we can get $2 for £1 from Princess by purchasing OBC before we sail, makes our spending money go much farther and on a par with last years rates we were getting

Hope this explains

LOL, yeah I figured that out. Would have been too good to be true in US$

:D

HI

When I phoned to take advantage of this offer I was told that it didnt matter when you actually booked the cruise.

The rate was just set by someone and it just varies on what ship and what sailing you do.

So it may be worth you phoning anyway and just see what rate you can get

anything must be better than the $1.42 that you get at home at the moment

thank you - I will do *fingers crossed*

Sadly, me too......only $1.42 to the £1 :(. Figure it is because we booked March 2009 for next Feb 2010. Seems current rate applies determined by the actual time you book.

Oh well.......as someone has already reminded me on another thread, keep watching the rates safe in the knowledge that i have at least got $1.42 waiting if rates drop. I do get 2 bites of the cherry as rates may go higher than $1.42.

cheers

Pete.

On the phone with Princess now. Says they never heard of 2 for 1 prepurchased OBCs.

Two for one FARES, yes, not OBC's....he put me on hold when I told him about this thread and confirmed no such thing.

Maybe this was something available only for European passengers?

Believe UK only. Based on the £ to $ exchange rate at the time we booked the cruise.

Whoops didnt realise there was another page!!!

I've bought some OBC at $2 to £1 :D Can anyone tell me is there a limit at all and will hubby's and my on board spend be put together and OBC bought be deducted that way (we'll use the same CC) or should I put some OBC on his account?

  • 3 weeks later...

ok, so heres what Im thinking...

There are two types of OBC - normal & Casino

As i understand it you can transfer money from OBC to casino (as per OP) and withdraw but there may be limits? Someone mentioned $1500 per day tp to $5000 per cruise?

If I buy casino credits and cash them in is there the same limit (cant imagine it given there must be some big gamblers)?

So, i bought OBC at $2 to £1 for my normal spend (yeee hah)

I could also effectively buy $5000 for £2500 -> take them out as cash.

Bring the cash back into the UK and convert at the silly rate given by travel agents (lets say a ridiculous $1.7 -> £1 which would translate to £2941 giving me a profit of £491 for doing very little?

At $1.6 = £1 the profit would be £625.

You can see how this could scale up!

two variables here... how much you can actually buy and the exchange rate you would get when converting back.

What do you think?

His spending will be merged with yours on the credit card BUT your OBC will NOT cover his spending. Anything on his account will just be put on the credit card, possibly leaving you with extra OBC. Put some OBC on his account!

sorry, i dont really follow this.

If my wife and I are in the cabin () and I purchase OBC, doesnt the OBC go against the cabin?

Can we each get a card to charge against the same account therefore both draw down on the OBC?

Sailed sea princess on 18th april. Took advantage of the 2 for 1 offer .put £1000 on obc giving me $2000.when we boarded there were 4x$500 vouchers in our cabin.did nothing with them.just put them in the safe.went to pursers desk to check and credit was already on . The credit was on my card nothing on my wifes. Because we decided not to use a credit card to settle our account ( cash) every time my wife used her card it was shown as a different account but same room no. At end of cruise both accounts were paid off by my obc. Every few days i went to the pursers desk to get a print out ,just to keep an eye on things. Every time i went i asked if i could take any remaining obc at the end of cruise in cash and i was assured i could. Settled my account the night before leaving and was smiling as they handed me back a few hundred dollars. What we would call a good result

good luck

Just back from the Sea Princess, I purchased $2-£1 for my OBC, if you register one credit card, you will get two account cards charged to the same cabin but on seperate invoices, simply visit the Pursers Desk prior to final day and transfer the second account users invoice onto the account of the primary (registered credit card users) account.

Also you can draw money out in the casino from your account (as long as you have registered your credit card) which has OBC in at a withdraw fee of 3%.

In other words if you purchased £10,000 OBC at $2-£1, ($20,000) and withdrew it all from the casino desk at say $2,000 a night for 10 nights, and then exchanged it back into stirling at say $1.60 - £1, you would be in profit to the tune of £2,125 enough to pay for all your spending maybe !:):):)

If you transfer to slot account, there is no 3% charge.

Also there is a $1,500 daily withdrawal limit from OBC, up to $5,000 per cruise, so don`t purchase $20,000 worth otherwise you will have to use it all or lose it, bar $5,000!

Thanks for the info on limits, if it is a 1 week back to back cruise (2 weeks), is it a $10,000 limit ?

Also on the Sea Princess, there was no slot account facility

Lee

Fraid not, the Cruise Answer Book says "per cruise".

Did not know there was "no slot account facility" on Sea Princess, thought it was the same system on all Princess ships.
