Forfeiting The Right To Complain!

Recommended Posts

A poster used the title phrase on another thread and I really liked it. Some things you do have the right to complain about but some others-well, you've been warned!

My favourites:

I booked an inside cabin and didn't get a balcony.

The cruise line recommends no flights before 1pm. Is it ok to book one earlier? Sure- but no whining when your ship is cleared late and you miss your flight.

Or-the ever popular dress code-I know it says no jeans but how dare they turn me away for wearing jeans.

I will let others get into hurricanes and port changes;)

I like the ones about not getting any towel animals.

The towel animals were a huge (entertaining) part of our holiday lol! I would miss them.....and the dismantling of them so I could try and make them again (never succeded lol!)

The one about the inside cabin and no balcony.......please tell me you were joking and someone didn't say that!!

Speaking of balcony, over the summer, somthing to this extent was written: It rained and was windy and RCCL did not come by and dry my balcony, and it (Balcony/Chairs) remained wet for several hours......Excuse me, but aren't you on a CRUISE SHIP.

I also love it when people complain about waves and rocking and blame it on the CRUISE COMPANY.... YOU'RE ON THE FREAKING OCEAN!

The worst thing is cruise ship lines dont enforce the non-smokeing areas. Smokers have rights but so do non-smokers and only the smokers are rude non-smokers dont infinge on smokers rights. So if theres a no smoke zone dont smoke its that easy.

Not that it matters, but this looks like the identical original post word for word that was started on the NCL boards. I know this because I'm the one who originally coined the phrase. Just wondering if your the same guy who originally posted this on the NCL board or not..Menina :)

Good idea, but guess I didn't understand why you copied the original poster's post word for word.

Meant to use "quote" option - in my haste to post I didn't preview post. Cooking breakfast at the same time and quess I was distracted. In future I won't try to multi-task and will focus on my post. Sorry.

It's funny sometimes for me to listen to people complain. It's not that I never get upset but it does take a lot for me to complain about ANYTHING on a cruise. I suppose I would get upset if the weather was poor or the itinerary was changed but as far as food, atmosphere, embarkation, debarkation (well, that always sucks), and general things like that, I am just pretty darn happy to be on a cruise and if one little thing isn't perfect (i.e. sub par buffet fare) I will just deal and move on. For me, it's not those tiny little things but the vacation as a whole that make it great. On our Carnival Paradise cruise last March, the only cruise we've ever been on, we were blown away! Many seasoned (or jaded) cruisers would have perhaps turned up their noses at this small, non-smoking ship. My husband and I took the great with the "just ok" and collectively had the greatest time of our lives. I guess I just don't let the little things get in my way of a great time. Like everyone says, "A bad day at sea is way better than a good day at home!"

I love this one: "I went on the same cruise last year and they had the SAME menu!" (Duh!! Even resturants have the same menu if you go back!)

"They made us vacate our cabins by 8:00am and go sit in the bars until they called us to get off the ship. I think this is a big SCAM to get people to buy more alcohol!"

"We went during hurricane season and had a hurricane!"

"I lost all my money in the casinos! They just put them there to rip you off!"

It's funny to read "Reviews". You can always tell who the first timers are.

I agree. However, sometimes when you do cruiseline arranged airfare, they DO book it for a pre 1pm departure. Which is kind of stupid since they know that there are some instances where you can't debark on time. It is for this reason that I book my own airfare.

It seems that some are not happy unless complaining. Therefore they cruise to look for subjects ofwhich to compain. I've never quite understood that thinking.
very well said,,, and exactly what i was thinking.........

Many of these examples also work backwards!

I booked an inside cabin and didn't get a balcony.
I booked an outside guarantee, and got a balcony with an obstructed view.

I know it says no jeans but how dare they turn me away for wearing jeans.
I know the dress code is only a suggestion, but how dare they not turn away people not wearing what I think they should be wearing.

Non-smokers complaining about smoking in the smoking section.

My favorite is "I cruised from San Juan and there were lots of Puerto Ricans", or the similar "I shopped in Mexico and they spoke Spanish and gave me pesos in change". I thought the main reason to cruise to other places was to experience other cultures!

I read on another forum, Carnival I think, that someone was upset because a box from a previous cruiser wasn't removed from beneath the bed during the cruise. I'm mean really! What's the big deal? Then room service and the steward were a little off during that cruise, so the poster is writing a letter to Carnival. Give me a break!

Remember smoke is hazardious to your health and everyone around you. Just think if you dont smoke you will get to cruise an extra 10 or more years. Unless you get it by a bus or something while in the Bahamas. : :

We went on a cruise in February--out of Tampa. The weather was a bit cool...mid 50's as we boarded the ship. And I couldn't believe the number of people who were complaining about the weather! At sailaway, we had Canadians behind us (we're from northwestern Pennsylvania) complaining about it---DH finally turned around and asked where they were from. When they said, "Canada," he asked, "Well, isn't this STILL warmer than what you left?"

By day two, we were balmy and warm.........but heck, it WAS February and (as a former Floridian) even Florida gets cooler in the WINTER!

DUH!

How about...

"I didn't buy cruise insurance, we had <insert bad event here>, and RCCL won't refund our money! It's not fair, and I'm writing a letter!"

"I cruised and <insert weather event here> ruined my vacation, because I didn't get to see <insert port of call here>. It's not fair, and I'm writing a letter!"

Every trip has risks -- the key is understanding how to mitigate them and when the risk happens, going with the flow and keeping an upbeat state of mind.

Cheers,

Esther
