Kurbanfan Posted May 1, 2009 #551 Share Posted May 1, 2009 Be sure to be out on deck (even if it is raining) for the sail under the Golden Gate! Maybe I'm a freak, but it brought me to tears!:o Enjoy! With an umbrella:o
sassyredhat Posted May 1, 2009 #552 Share Posted May 1, 2009 Hi everybody~~~Fred and Wendy, I miss you guys. As one of "those" who chose to debark in LB (I'm not a whiner--ask Fred), it was a good call for us. We returned to 2 kids with the flu, and our house in now Code Red. :D I wish we were still onboard being silly, eating great food, and being pampered by the wonderful crew. We even bought heavy sweatshirts for SF before we learned about our sick kids. We got reimbursed for our shore excursions, but didn't expect anything from CCL. It was our call. Mike is really happy. He had golf lessons with the pro and ended up buying new clubs. HMMMMMM~~~those clubs could have paid for part of another cruise. :( Splendor is a pretty ship. I think you guys will like it. Katz A Prowl Posted May 1, 2009 #553 Share Posted May 1, 2009 I think they deserve more then $20 for ports they missed.....maybe they will give something to the rest that stayed on this nightmare cruise? Who knows only time will tell........ I spoke with a few people on the ship yesterday while they were in LB and they said this cruise was a blast!!!:D Not what they had signed up for at first but they were having a great time, keeping a good attitude and hanging out with some really fun people. I think they would call it anything but a nightmare. Sometimes things happen and getting pissed or uptight only makes it worse......you got to just roll with it (literally in the rough sea) and make it as fun as you can. It's not like the cruiseline just decided to say "Hey screw you guys we are sick of you people having so much fun in Mexico, we're taking you up north!"
sassyredhat Posted May 1, 2009 #554 Share Posted May 1, 2009 My concern is this: I feel that these people who are getting off the ship early and are pissed off are going to maliciously take the tips off their sail and sign account for the whole amount of the cruise. I can understand not paying for the days they aren't going to use, but what about the 4 days they were waited on? I think it will be a shame for all those that work so hard on the ship. Also, how are they going to prepare the food. Aren't they used to making meals for an army? Oh, and for those of you staying on the ship, ask if you can be upgraded, just for having a great attitude!:D We DID give our wait staff and housekeeping extra gratuities. They deserved it. While I was in the extremely long line to sign up for early debarkation, there were a couple of people walking down the line advising others to remove the gratuities. I told the lady that I wasn't going to do that. It wasn't right. Hey Fred~~~~did you guys ask to move to our cabin ??? 7434 ;) Pat
pulledporky Posted May 1, 2009 #555 Share Posted May 1, 2009 There are sveral webcams scattered around the bay area. Who knows only time will tell........ Cruisers are getting a bit more than what that article eludes to....Here is an excerpt from the Carnival website, regarding compensation for the Swine Flu: "Guests who do not wish to sail on a modified itinerary may opt to receive a refund in the form of a future cruise credit equal to the full amount paid for the voyage. The credit may be applied to an alternate sailing departing through the end of 2010. Compensation for missed ports/altered itineraries (where applicable) for guests who sail varies by itinerary." This is a lot more than the reported $20 per port the disgruntled cruisers allegedly received. (And a WHOLE lot more than a poor air passenger would ever receive.) That only applies to the cruises starting this weekend. Anyone that got off yesterday received a letter that if they chose to debark, there would be no refund of unused days nor could they use the Vacation Guarantee. yogi2929 Posted May 1, 2009 #561 Share Posted May 1, 2009 Thanks for sharing your experiences. What a great travel story you all now have. I love these kind of travel stories. I am bummed to find out that the Splendor does not have a fish and chips station. That's worse news than the port changes. We are going on the June 7 sailing and that is what I was looking forward to. :(

starraz Posted May 1, 2009 #568 Share Posted May 1, 2009 What's your point:confused: The point is some of us just don't get it. We do not get how any part of being on a cruise ship can be a nightmare. If being on a cruise ship is that horrible for you, why don't you just book all inclusive vacations in the destinations? I am watching this whole thing unfold and wish I could be there. My wife and I LOVE cruising and every time we get on we understand that anything can happen and ports can change or be canceled. Carnival has always made that very clear. We are fine with this because we know worst case we are stuck on the ship and that does not bother us at all. :) If I did not just get off the Splendor 2 weeks ago, I would be booking a pacific northwest cruise right now on it for next week. :)

crzndeb Posted May 1, 2009 #570 Share Posted May 1, 2009 I think for some unhappy cruisers, had the ships stopped in Mexico and people got sick for the whole rest of the cruise, they would have been really mad about that also. Unfortunately, things like this happen. I think I would rather change my itinerary than be sick in bed for a week. Damned if you do and damned if you don't. But for every negative person, there are probably 50 positive...I'll hang with Lemonade group. And make that a Lemon Drop Martini for me, please! Wennfred Posted May 1, 2009 Author #571 Share Posted May 1, 2009 Dprcan, The ride to San Fran was pretty smooth, even today the water is like ice, no movement whats so ever, the ship is cruising at around 17 knots and we can see the Golden Gate Bridge very clear from out here, chances are we will do circles out here until the 1pm time frame, its currently 11am. Last night during dinner 6pm, occasionally it was alittle bumpy but not much. Oh, be sure to bring cold weather clothing and a few umbrellas just incase. Kurbanfan, I don't get off in Mexico because I have done it many times over, but lets say we were heading to Aruba a location I never have been too, I still would of stayed onboard due to the Swine or the R2D2 flu. Yogi2929, You can still get Fish & Chips down in the dining room on one of the days, I think it was Wednesday for us, the Fish and Chips was so light, I also had the ribs that day for lunch. Both were very tasty and not to be missed. I am wearing a T-Shirt, Polo Shirt and one of those Carnival Sweat Shirts, I went up to the highest point and it wasn't too cold, as long as we don't get rained on we should be ok. We are still full from breakfast so we are just going to get a bite to eat out in town. Down another 100.00 in the Casino this morning, thats it for me, I will be in Vegas next week and will try my chances there. Fred
