Alternative shore excursions for Warnemunde

Can anyone suggest another excursion, other than Berlin, for the stop in Warnemunde? Would appreciate some ideas.

There are at least a dozen boats in Warnemunde's harbor that offer sightseeing trips to Rostok. They serve food and beverages and I think the tours take about 2 hours. Thre price was fairly reasonable (as I recall), and if the weather is nice it is quite enjoyable.

Check over on the Northern Europe boards in the Ports of Call section. A poster named HeinBloed has some really great ideas for self guided tours by train or by rental car to the nearby towns of Lubeck, Schwerin, Wismar and others. We're planning to follow his suggestions for a rental car when we're there next month.

We did the ship's excursion into Rostock and really enjoyed it. It included a walking tour of the city and finished with a tour of the Rostocker Brewery (which included several free samples of beer :)). Very good beer, I might add. We were back at the ship with plenty of time to wander around Warnemunde, including a great lunch at the Twee (yes, the Twee).

Last year we did the Schwerin tour. It was incredible! Got us out on the autoban thru some beautiful countryside that used to be East Germany. For those of us who had grown up in the 40's and 50's that was very surreal.

Our guide was a young woman who had grown up in Schwerin and knew so much about the area, the history, etc.

This tour included a short boat ride ... approaching the castle at Schwerin from the water. Wow ... very nice!

We got back to Warnemunde in plenty of time to take a nice stroll around that small, quaint town. Found a vendor and bought a couple of brats. Yummy.

Enjoy your Baltic cruise!

They may have been brats when you bought them, but I am willing to bet they are well mannered and polite now;)
