bigdaddyvoges Posted May 7, 2009 #1 Share Posted May 7, 2009 All, My wife and I are bringing our laptop on the cruise. We are going to use it to watch a movie on the 3 hour flight to Miami and to play our music in the rooms (2 Cat 11 suites with open balcony) when hanging out during the day or in the evening but won't be so loud as to cause a disturbance. We have respect for all the fellow travelers. Should I be worried to leave the laptop in the room all day when in port or at the pool? Where should I keep it, in a drawer? Please advise. Thanks. Illsticktocrusing Posted May 7, 2009 #3 Share Posted May 7, 2009 Last time we traveled with a small laptop that actually fit into the safe. I have left my laptop in a drawer, underneath dirty clothes and inside the luggage under the bed.
gail811 Posted May 7, 2009 #4 Share Posted May 7, 2009 I keep mine in plain view and have never had an issue. I do turn it off, but figure if my cabin steward wanted it bad enough he would know all the good hiding places in my cabin! ;)
Ken076 Posted May 7, 2009 #5 Share Posted May 7, 2009 Put it in your luggage and lock the luggage. ken
bigdaddyvoges Posted May 7, 2009 Author #6 Share Posted May 7, 2009 I figured no one would have a problem with this. Really hiding it wouldn't do any good because I am sure your steward would find it in 3 guesses or less. In the luggage and lock or in a drawer is what we will do. THANKS!!! Bob Chicago Once you get on board, toss overboard your laptop, cellphone, blackberry, pager, and anything else that keeps you chained to your previous life! :D (Actually we too usually lock it in our luggage that we have & hope for the best. Unless it fits in the safe, there's not many places to hide anything inside a cabin. But for our upcoming cruise it's staying at home).

spencercoop Posted May 7, 2009 #14 Share Posted May 7, 2009 It is not the cabin steward you have to worry about stealing your laptop, it is your fellow passengers. When the cabin steward walks out to their cart and bends down to find something, someone could quickly walk into your room and steal something. I just keep my laptop in my laptop bag in the closet or by the desk.

tandemcruzr Posted May 8, 2009 #18 Share Posted May 8, 2009 Its very expensive to use your laptop (connet to the internet) on board..no? Yes. But I think they were just going to use it to watch a movie on the plane, and to listen to music they already had downloaded to their laptop. So they wouldn't be using the ship's wireless network connection. We use ours to download our photos each day and never connect to the ship's network. We leave the laptop in its bag in the closet. Bob Chicago Consider buying a laptop lock. You could lock your laptop to something permanent. Here's a typical one: http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10074804&catid=25600&test_cookie=1#

Barbados1999 Posted June 9, 2009 #23 Share Posted June 9, 2009 we always leave our laptop on the desk in plain view. never had a problem. the cost for internet service is the same whether you use the internet cafe or your laptop in your room or throughout the ship. i can't remember the exact cost but it was about $50 for 100 minutes, but they have 'bon voyage specials' and other specials where you can get deals. n2knight Posted June 9, 2009 #24 Share Posted June 9, 2009 I am the IT geek for my company so I have heard my fair share of laptop stolen stories. I travel a fair amount myself and I use the daysafe 200 from pacsafe (http://www.pac-safe.com/www/index.php?_room=3&product_status=New) There are plenty of products to choose from. What I love about my backpack is it has a removable inner-pouch (laptop sleeve) that has the wiremesh surrounding it. The upper lip of the sleeve unzips to reveals a steel cable that cinches the top. the excess steel cable is used to loop around a sturdy stationary object to secure the laptop and valuables inside. I have had the bag for about two years now and its great! Last year on a trip through UK and Amsterdam, i could see where someone had tried to cut into the removable sleeve and yank it free from where it was secured. (large water pipe running floor to ceiling in my room) The sleeve was sliced all to hell but the contents remained safe and sound. Same person apparently took other items from other rooms that same day. I agree with others that your laptop should be safe as long as it is out of immediate site. If really concerned check out the web site above. enjoy your cruise! WD All, My wife and I are bringing our laptop on the cruise.
