Nutbunch Posted May 8, 2009 #1 Share Posted May 8, 2009 I'm booked on a HAL cruise already, but was checking prices. Not that'll matter much since I paid fully. We have 2 cabins. A quad and a double. When I seach using 4 people on the website for our cruise it says "closed" for most of the classes. Hoever when I search for 2 people, all the classes say "available" including the max occupancy 4 ones. What gives? Why is a 4 person cabin available for 2 people but not for 4? 6rugrats Posted May 8, 2009 #2 Share Posted May 8, 2009 You must have missed the many, many other discussions asking this same question:) Sometimes you can put only two people in a cabin that may accomodate four, because the ship can hold only so many people. So, you can't book four into that cabin, because it will put the ship over its capacity.
Nutbunch Posted May 8, 2009 Author #3 Share Posted May 8, 2009 I did search, but my online booking search just got hits about is it better to book online, or use TA or call PPC. Now that I think about your answer it make some sense in that, it's better business for them to book as many double cabins, because of the reduced 3rd & 4th person fares. Those 3rd & 4th people might take up more services than they are paying for.

Today's cruise fares are so low that I suspect the profit is in additional sales, shorex, spa services and the always profitable casino. Speaking of spa services, Maasdam offers a "thermal Suite" at $250 p/couple for the two week cruise. At ~$9 p/person p/day, it is a definite bargain. Very few pax knew about it. I saw no ads for it and only became aware when another pax told me about it. Visit the spa on day one and ask for a tour.
