luggage charges when flying 2 different airlines

I assume you are travelling on a single ticket / itinerary. If so, baggage charges are based on the policy of the carrier operating the first flight. If you have two separate tickets for Alaska and then Frontier, expect to pay twice.

Even if you have 2 tickets, if you point the second one out to the first carrier, they will check the bags through, assuming the interline agreements allow that. Most of the major airlines do this but it doesn't work with carriers like Southwest, Airtran, Jetblue and a few others.

AGAIN, incorrect info. Airlines DO NOT have to through check baggage with TWO tickets. They may as a courtesy. Your statement- "they will check the bags through" is NOT a given.

IATA Global Customer Service agreement and international carriers have GENERALLY signed a pledge to through check luggage even with two tickets and that agreement has been incorporated IN PART in various parts of the CFR, Part 14, Subsection 381-385. HOWEVER, ATA (which governs US domestic flights) has NOT incorporated any part of the "two ticket, will check baggage through" in the CFR. So while the airlines MAY have an interline agreement and they MAY check the luggage through on two separate tickets, they DO NOT HAVE TO.

This from Frontier's own C of C:

"Frontier will check baggage only when the passenger presents a valid ticket for transportation on Frontier, or on Frontier and one or more other carriers with whom Frontier has a ticketing and baggage agreement."

PLEASE notice the word AND-Frontier AND. This DEFINITELY means ONE TICKET, no matter how many carriers. Doesn't say ticketS

Also:

"Beyond the passenger’s next point of stopover; or if there is no stopover,

beyond the final destination designated on the ticket."

NO TRANSFER TO ANOTHER AIRLINE if the final destination on the first ticket is the final destination on that ticket.

Again, airlines MAY transfer luggage AS A COURTESY on a two ticket itinerary. But they don't have to. Hope I made my point.

We booked through ex***ia. 1 ticket/itenerary.

No extra luggage charges SHOULD be the rule. Call Expedia. IF they tell you differently, I would throw a MAJOR fit. Expedia needs to take care of this. Again, often the problem with third party booking agencies-a piece here and a piece there. IF the pieces are not put together PROPERLY (just how good is the OPS manager and the IT wizards), could cause problems for the traveler.
