Cruising with 17 and 18 year olds

In June, I am taking a group of 4 girls on RC Monarch. 2 of them are 17 and 2 will just be 18. I was told by RC that they could all use the teen club, which is usually for 16-17 year olds. Are their SeaPass cards different since they are different age groups? Can anyone confirm or deny this? I want to make sure they will all still be able to hang out together, and that the 2 18 year olds won't have to go into the 18-20 group (since they just turned 18). They want to hang out together, as it's their graduation celebration.

Thanks!

The kid's club ends at age 17. There is no 18 to 20 year old group on RCI or organized activities. To be perfectly honest, the older teens do not participate in any organized activities. They find them to be very lame. What they do is just hang out with each other. Yes, their sign and sail cards will say they're underage for things like drinking but not for the clubs. But some of the clubs do not allow anyone under age 18 in the clubs and their cards will identify that and the 17 year olds won't be allowed in those clubs after a certain time.

Also remember, you'll need to bring consent forms from both parents of the 17 year olds with you. You may have to show those letters of consent when you check in with the girls. That letter will also have to give you permission to make emergency decisions for the 17 year olds. Without those letters, and they must be notorized, they could deny you boarding.

I wouldn't get any of their hopes up based on someone on the phone at the cruise line telling you something. Very often the customer service people are not clear on what the on-board rules are. I'd be interested to know if adults (over 18) are allowed to participate with younger teens. What would the cut-off be?

Best,

Mia

Mia, believe me, adults that are 19 and older are not going to want to participate in the organized activities from the Camp Carnival's or Adventure Oceans of the cruising world. The cut off age is 17 for every cruise line and their "kids" programs. But I have never seen 16 and 17 year olds who wanted to participate in the organized ship's activities other than being in the teen disco.

On Freedom in April you could tell the sea passes of the under 18 group in 2 ways: they have a design on then (not just white background) and they have 2 holes punched. Your 18 year olds will have the same sea pass as all of the other adults but will have 1 hole punched since they are under 21. Also, the teen club has available a roster of all the teens sailing (under 18 and their birthdates).

I have seen 16 and 17 yr olds in the teen center on more than one cruise and my son was one of them. They liked the foosball tournament, texas holdem tournament, and also the disco. On our last cruise the staff did allow 18 yr olds into both Fuel and the living room on the Mariner if they signed a waiver giving up their rights to the casino. On the same ship the year before, they did not allow 18 yr olds in so it really depends on the staff on that particular sailing.
