Is there something I'm missing with Majesty??

We're booked for our first cruise on the Majesty 2005. It will be our fifth cruise, with all the others on mega NCL ships. From the sound of Irv, 5th class cruising should be right up his alley!! As for his pricing comment, and affordability, our Majesty cruise will be the most expensive per day cruise for us, and pretty expensive for some first timers going with us compared with what they could get in other seasons, or other cruiselines. Our choice was based on the desire to go to Bermuda, with a family group, out of NY or Boston. After checking the board, weighing all the comments, pro and con, with a grain of salt in some occasions, we are very comfortable with our choice. There are lots of Majesty fans out there, and we are very much looking forward to our cruise, and recognize there will be differences between the Dawn and the Majesty.

We've been pretty selective on who we have invited to join us for this trip, but I'm happy to hear I can lower our standards to attract some "low lifes" who might be able to afford this cruise. By the way, I take Irv's comments with lots of salt!!

if you enjoy everything being thorougly mediocre, please take this cruise ship. "It's a 5th-rate cruise for people with little class who expect little and get it, essentially people who want to go on a cruise but really can't afford it."

I realise this pompous fool is not likely to read this ...but all the same I have to respond.

Apparently you have access to a PC AND the internet, how about using them to do a little research before booking any kind of trip, any where, any time in the future. By doing so you would have known in advance that The Majesty is not a mega ship offering a zillion and one activities to prevent you remembering to lay back and relax, there is no cinema - oh please (you could have watched a movie in your cabin had that been a priority). And if the books were accessable I am sure you would have critisized the selection available.

I read everything I could find about this ship before booking (and since) and by the time we boarded her we were not expecting much - particularly the excellent service, terrific food and lovely vacation we ultimately had. We were delighted to find everything to be better that we hoped and yes it did not break the bank. We figured (as has been written on many posts) that The Majesty is a great ship to discover if one enjoys cruising without paying through the nose only to realize that you hate it.

As it happens we loved it, loved the people and the ship. And although we will be waiting to see which other ships depart from Charleston next year, the chances are we will sail The Majesty again.

Sir, your remark is offensive and innacurate. I for one am glad I will not run the risk of bumping into you on a cruise in the future as I do not require someone to wipe my a**e for me and do not wish to share company with one who does.

Actually, erv was back on the boards this morning sometime between 10 and 11. Since this is the only place s/he had posted in his/her one and only day on the boards s/he probably checked in to see if a flame fest had started.

Note to erv:Sorry to dissapoint you. But, those of us here who have sailed the Majesty (many of us multiple times) understand that you are soooo right. You are not in the same "class".

'Nuff said.

Hi-

I just wanted to make some comments about the Majesty. My husband and I cruised on the Majesty Boston to Bermuda for our very first cruise several years ago (shortly after she was stretched) and it convinced us that cruising was the best vacation to be had.

Since then, we have been on the NCL SKY(Pacific Coastal), DAWN, NORWAY (carribean), Celebrity Millenium (panama canal), SeaDream 1 (atlantic crossing), and back again on the Majesty this June (Boston to Bermuda) with my in-laws (86 & 83). We are going on the Feb 3 Island Princess to Hawaii next.

The Majesty is a nice, small-to-mid sized cruise ship. She is not fancy, does not have excessive features, but she is very pleasant. On both cruises we found the food to be nicely prepared and nicely presented (in fact we thought it was more interesting and better prepared than Celebrity!). Good desserts, nice staff. The buffet was too crowded for our tastes, with not enough tables, so we chose to eat most of our meals in the dining room.

The maintenance on Majesty is going on all the time, and she was in better shape than the 1 year old Millenium (less visible rust!).

Toilets are always a problem on cruise ships because of the way passengers treat them. We booked the largest inside cabins available on the ship this past cruise(I think deck 7- same as the casino) and were diagonally across the hall from my inlaws.

We had no problems with our toilet, but theirs was backed-up and there was a sewage back-up in their shower as well- with water all over the floor. We just happened to be fortunate that we were on a different line.

The problem was resolved by the next day- it was not pleasant but there isn't much you can do until they locate the clog and remove it.

The casino is definitely very smokey and we really cannot stand cigarette smoke, but it is a small space so this is hard to avoid. It is hard to avoid the smoke in most of the public places. Unfortunately, this is part of life when you do not smoke but others are permitted to.

One thing that we do not like about this ship is that we never seem to be able to get a cabin where the beds can be made into a single queen vs. two twins.

There were both very nice people on board and some extremely arrogant and rude people. Just the way of the world. One man and his wife acted as if they owned the ship, were very rude and insulting to my father in law, and of course we seemed to run into them every time we turned around. However, we did NOT allow this to ruin our good time!

The spa/salon was very pushy trying to sell services and products, but I did get a decent trim for my long hair on board on a port day.

I think if you are looking for a relatively inexpensive cruise and have reasonable expectations (do not expect this to be a mega-ship with a skating rink!) you will have a good time. This is not the Sea Dream 1- but you should not expect it to be!

We will not go back on the Majesty again, but not because of any bad experience. We just prefer a different type of ship, and different Itineraries.

  • 3 weeks later...

Would this be a good trip for my college age daughter and a few (3 or 5)of her friends, with chaperones of course (myself included?) Their spring break is in March and we wanted something inexpensive that we could drive to easily (4 1/2 to 5 hours to port from our door.)

I was hoping that March might have some younger folks on the ship that time of year. As you can see from my signature, we have been on some of the largest/finest ships, but we are prepared for the Majesty as long is we can relax.

What do you think, will we still be happy with the Majesty? We are looking at the bottom of the barrel...insides with two per stateroom.

Although we enjoy the Majesty, it would be difficult to say how you and your daughter might like her.

By reading the boards you should get a good feel for the type of cruise that you are in for. The report from makai 7 seems very fair and balanced. Like makai, Majesty was our maiden cruise (December 2002) and it took us less than 24 hours to get really hooked on cruising.

The food is good. The ship is smaller than the ones you normally cruise. The less expensive insides are very small. Probably the smallest we have ever encountered. For the two of us it was OK.

If you are not going with any grand expectations of lavish appointments, large central atrium, multiple entertainment opportunities, etc. you should enjoy a relaxing get away.

Thanks! That's just about how I summed it up. Those staterooms are TINY! :D

Do you know what the difference is from the Superior Interior and the Interior staterooms? Also, if we went with the Interior, what deck should we request or should we just go with a guarantee and not worry?

We are going on the Majesty in February...Can't wait...the staterooms are definitely smaller than most but HEY WHO GOES ON CRUISES TO BE IN THEIR CABIN other than sleep!!?!??!!?! It's all about rest and relaxation and wonderful beaches when it's dead of winter at home...Haven't been on the Majesty yet, but my mind is open and it's all about what you make of it....has nothing to do with a lower class....what's wrong with saving a few bucks, you need them to donate to the Tsunami survivors anyway....
