bcd2010 Posted May 31, 2009 #1 Share Posted May 31, 2009 My adult son wants to fulfill a lifelong dream to learn to surf when we go to Hawaii in January. We've heard that Waikiki is the best place to learn and have found a web site that gives individual lessons. We'd like to hear of people's experiences with such places. bakerintn Posted May 31, 2009 #2 Share Posted May 31, 2009 The last time I surfed at Waikiki was 50 years ago!! I'm sure that the surf is about the same....a nice break not too far out, great for learning. Consistently OK on most any day ... good enough to get you standing up and surfing at a small angle to the beach. There are probably lots and lots of instructors available on any one day ... he should have a good time. If he has a skate board, encourage him to use it on the days before the cruise...good balance practice for surfing. hang ten, dude...
kathynorth Posted May 31, 2009 #3 Share Posted May 31, 2009 My kids took surf lessons from Poipu beach on Kaiuai. We also saw lessons going on when we were at Waiki and at Coco Beach, FL.
