aussie57 Posted June 26, 2009 #51 Share Posted June 26, 2009 There are 2 ice cream stations open in the Horizon Court buffet most days from about 1pm till dinner time. They serve different flavours each day - usually including the flavour that was on the MDR menu the night before. They serve it in bowls or mini cones & you can have as much as you like. They also serve low fat & low sugar varieties as well as soft serve frozen yoghurt. Didn't go to the midnight buffet sorry. It was only on once in our 13 night cruise, as was the brunch buffet in the MDR which was excellent.
Tazzycat Posted June 26, 2009 #52 Share Posted June 26, 2009 Where is the ice cream served? On the 11th deck near the Lido Buffet Is it everyday? Yep. Always Choc, Vanilla, and then the other flavors vary, including a sorbet and a no-sugar choice. Is it dessert after a meal or in the afternoon, when I usually have my ice-cream cravings? Open from noon until 9pm Is the midnight buffet offered a few times during the voyage, or every night? I never heard anything about it and so I missed it Is it worth staying up for? Oh yeah, honey. I love all food.
Rare Lois R Posted June 26, 2009 #53 Share Posted June 26, 2009 Tazzycat, I read your review. Thanks for all the great information. Where is the ice cream served? Is it everyday? Is it dessert after a meal or in the afternoon, when I usually have my ice-cream cravings? Is the midnight buffet offered a few times during the voyage, or every night? Is it worth staying up for? I'm rarely up that late anymore. Thanks! Hi:) The midnight buffet, when it is offered, is only once per cruise. It used to be held on the 2nd formal night. Over the past year or so they did away with it and offered a "Chocolate Buffet" once throughout the cruise, along with 1 brunch. Its never been offered every night or even a few times. They wouldn't be able to handle it more than once:eek:....if you saw how much food, ice carvings, and etc...etc...etc..there is no way the staff could do it that often. Is it worth staying up for? That depends on the individual. I have late seating so I am still up at midnight. I used to go and look at everything.:D It really is pretty. But I don't normally eat since I would have finished dinner between 10 and 10:30...... If you have never seen one, I would say its really nice to see at least once;)

That's an interesting observation. Up until maybe a dozen years ago, midnight buffets were standard most nights on pretty much every cruise. Somehow, they did it back then. But I guess with cut-backs, it was one of the easy places to cut first.
