echo Posted December 13, 2004 #1 Share Posted December 13, 2004 Cotton, I hope you see this before the 17th, since we are heading to NOLA then. I've been reading all your post and I have a few questions for ya. Where's the Gumbo shop? I'd like to try this for lunch.Do they have anything for my DH to eat, he doesn't like any seafood. We'll be staying at the Hilton riverside, I've stayed there before, but Iwas sick and never left the room. Is the trolley near there? We have deiced to take a taxi to the ship. Do you think we'll have a hard time geting a taxi back to the hotel for disembarkement? Also I read one of your posts that gave directions to the Fulton St parking, but now I can't find it. Others in our party are gonna need to park there. Thanks in advance. Can't wait to see if NOLA does up the decorating for Christmas.
Budget Queen Posted December 14, 2004 #2 Share Posted December 14, 2004 The Gumbo Shop is on St. Peter. Here is their menu http://www.gumboshop.com/restaurant_menu/restaurant_menu.asp Yes easy cab ride to and from Hilton Riverside to dock. The Riverfront streetcar (don't call it a trolley :) ) stops right at the hotel. The St. Charles Streetcar is a few blocks away as is the Canal Streetcar, but the Riverfront streetcar has a Canal St. Stop and easy transfer, or short walk. zydecocruiser Posted December 14, 2004 #3 Share Posted December 14, 2004 Not sure how I manage to keep deleting some of my posts... The Gumbo Shop homepage: http://www.gumboshop.com/ You can get to location etc. from there. Directions to the Port/Parking: http://www.portno.com/cruise_directions.htm http://www.portno.com/cruise_parking.htm Hertz shares the garage, so if they see the Hertz sign, they are there. Some people prefer to park here: http://www.machupicchutours.com/reservations.htm For Christmas, New Orleans Style: http://fqfi.org/index.php?id=10,19,0,0,1,0 You might check out the Reveillon menus to see if anything strikes your fancy. One thing I would say not to miss is the Angel Hair Display at the Fairmont (Roosevelt, to me). They list many, many events.
Cotton Posted December 14, 2004 #4 Share Posted December 14, 2004 Hi Echo. I see that Budget and Zydeco answered your questions nicely. However, since the maps and directions don't show exactly how to get to Fulton St. Garage/Hertz, I'll detail it for you: From I-10, going toward the river (West Bank), get into the RIGHT lane, and take the Tchoupitoulas Exit. Go straight on Tchoupitoulas to Convention Center Blvd. Take a LEFT on CCBlvd, and stay in LEFT lane. Go approx. two long blocks. Fulton St.Garage/Hertz is on the LEFT - can't miss it. (It says "no u-turn", but I do it anyway.) Then turn into the big opening for parking. Up the ramp is a ticket person, who will direct you to whichever tiers they're using for parking. There are elevators to take you back to the lobby. Enjoy our city AND your cruise! Bon Voyage!:)

zydecocruiser Posted December 14, 2004 #6 Share Posted December 14, 2004 Oh yeah. Don't know about the taxi question. Maybe ask the taxi driver that takes you to the ship how best to get one going to the Hilton? Are you staying at the Hilton before and after? Maybe ask them also. They should know. Fulton Street Garage is an easy walk if you aren't lugging luggage along. I've even done it lugging luggage. There are shuttles, but I didn't feel like waiting for one last time. Maybe one of your friends can go pick up their vehicle, come back and give you a ride to the Hilton?
