Is there a visitor's center at Icy Strait Point?

I am wondering if you get off ship with no planned excursions,

will there be information about activities, and opportunity to book activities?

Will the excursions offered by the ship be available to book once you are off the ship. For example: Hoonah sightseeing, Forest & Nature Tram, Wild Alaska Culinary Extravaganza, Spasski River Valley Wildlife & Bear Search, etc.

When you walk up off the dock, the first building you walk into has booths for all the ship-sponsored vendors (all the vendors who still have space) to sell their tours. Independent operators aren't allowed on the property, even to pick guests up.

I found an ISP website that said local tour operators work with the ship when they were in port. made me think it would be hard to book at the last minute anything. But yuo might be able to prebook a tour with a local.

There are several independent operators that offer fishing, whale watching and bear tours out of ISP and they pick you up right outside the gate of the Point. You won't save much money with an independent tour, but you will have a MUCH more personal and less crowded tour(and MUCH better IMHO). Here is a link to some of the private tours you might consider.

Icy Strait Point is a very small place. There are not a lot of vendors like there are in Juneau or Ketchikan. I would not really count on being able to book a particular tour by walking off the ship. Perhaps you could get the zip line or the forest tram, but a bear search or whale watch might be much more problematic.

We were delighted with our tour with Keith of Teckk Tours http://www.teckkoutfittersicystrait.com/

Yes, you are quite right. The tours in Hoonah book up quickly. You need to contact them to book a reservation if you are interested in one of their wonderful tours. We use TECKK also.

I checked Teckk Tours website.

It was a little tricky finding the "contact us" link. (bottom of FAQ).

If you don't mind, what is the Cost of bear search tour?

How does the booking process work?

I imagine series of back and forth emails / phone calls?

We are booked for September at a cost of $130.00 pp. We emailed back and forth a few times and when I had the information I told him how many of us were interested. There is a $25.00 pp deposit required and Keith's wife Edna called me to get the credit card numer for the deposit. After that she sent an email confirming our reservation. It was very easy.

F.I.S.H.E.S. does an awesome water tour (mostly whales and seals, you may see an eagle or a bear). He can only take 6 people on his boat. The 3-hour tour is $150pp plus tax, and they pick you up right outside the gate at ISP. On the day my ship was in port, 3 couples had already booked the morning excursion, and there wasn't enough time for another full excursion before the ship left, so they offered a 2-hour version for $100pp plus tax. I did it; it was amazing and worth every penny. We only had 5 guests on board (a family of 4 plus me). Pix in the Serenade album if you follow the link in my signature.
