Noisy Carnival Cruise Ship Ruins Familys Cruise

Instead of dismissing her you should read it. She back Carnival, and commends them for going above and beyond.

I don't commend Carnival. And to publish this story will just bring more complainers out of the woodwork. Or better yet, let's stop all music at 9ish so SOME can get some sleep.

And I still would like to know where this music was coming from.

Now, as to the jerks across the hall on our recent Victory cruise,

I hope you enjoyed all of the 7 am hang-up phone calls I made to your cabin

to repay you for your nightly 4 am hallway parties! :D

Thanks for the great tip, man! ;)

How the heck did something this goofy even merit an article being written?

Anyone remember the piece she wrote a couple years ago "sex and the window washer"...

Look who wrote it.

DISMISSED!

Don't dismiss it, read it. It was good. The writer of the piece stated that she thought CCL gave a fair compensation.

are you joking?? (I hope) LOL

I do agree with your point...but businesses understand that there are going to be 'people' (and I use the term loosely) who are going to pull this crap on them. Unfortunately, it is the loyal passenger that pays in the end.

Noise on the ship is one of those things you have to sometimes put up w/ on a cruise. For me, it is just part of the experience - Like having to deal with lines at Disney World. It isn't something that keeps me from cruising. I completely understand people being upset about it. The answer is to do a little research on cabin location. Although, this does not protect you from rude neighbors. This episode seems like a fairly mild occurrance(both in decibels and the lateness of the noise) and Carnival more than made an attempt to satisfy.

I agree, and thats why I said semi-quiet, and you do get noise from people walking (or running) in the halls or other intermitten noises but thats nothing compared to what we heard AND felt from cabin 6367 lol, when my husband told the lady at the service desk that she could send someone to listen as soon as she heard the cabin number she knew right away. And we WILL do our own cabin research from now on, actually we really liked the inside cabin and would probably get one again

if I can get my husband to agree(he's a balcony snob) lol, we are thinking of a short cruise in Oct. and he's thinking a suite this time.

I still stand behind Carnival and agree what they offered that family was fair, WE didnt ask for 3/4s of what Carnival gave us, we even said they could upgrade someone else to our balcony cabin. I dont know why that couple didnt just get off at the first port , maybe they didnt know about Carnivals vacation garrantee.

It was never about the money we spent or our balcony cabin, my hubbie works a stressful job and was leaving for Irac the week after our cruise so all we really cared about was that we were together for our anniversary and him getting a little R&R which we always have on past cruise's and what matters is it ended up being a very special one, thanks to Carnival .

mistyinca, what cabin do you have on the Splendor? We were in 6456 on the May 10th cruise and there definitely was a noise problem there. It was like being inside a lowrider with the loud speakers going full blast. The cabin floor vibrated as did things that were sitting on the counter. I have a recording of the sound if you would be interested.

I hope you have a good cruise.

6456 is aft. You were over the Morocco lounge, and probably felt some azipod vibration.

I'm no where near there. I'm going to be located directly above the band that plays across from the casino. We'll be out late anyway.

More cabins that have noise problems and they are even aware of this?

If this is the case and they are not noted and discounted at the time of bookings........it is only a matter of time before someone will not put up with it........and rightfully so......I guess the cruiselines would rather just take that chance that nobody complains.........

Discounting those cabins (just because of a noise issue) might very well open up a brand new can of worms. "Everyone" will all of a sudden be hearing noises of all sorts.

These people remind me of many customers I had to deal with at my previous job. These are the kind of customers businesses don't need. I was on the Triumph this past April and I was on deck 8 under the south beach dining area. I admit that it was annoying to hear the push carts going over my head at midnight or people walking heavy or worse is the annoying passengers that have no respect in the hallways for other guests that are trying to sleep. But not one time did I think of complaining. Noise is hard to control when dealing with passengers so not a good reason for compensation. As far as the noise coming from entertainment I am sure it is annoying but having a 2 year old myself I know she would have still slept through that. I am sure they got some sleep but just over exaggerating it so they can get more. The ship is big but still there is only so many places you can put entertainment without disturbing on there. I think the people were compensated more than they should have and they are part of the reason why other's have to pay more for things. This country has the worst record of suing for anything and for trying to get something for nothing at others expense.

Well that is all I have to say about that.

Going on my 2nd cruise in August and noise or no noise I am going to enjoy it.

Again, I'd like to restate from the article - the noise was as loud as someone being IN their cabin having a conversation. I agree that the compensation situation is ridiculous. And that their lawsuit might be. But to say that the average person should be able to put up with, and go to sleep to, music as loud as someone talking in their cabin -that's nuts.

I can sleep through anything. Anytime we get a big storm around here, everyone's talking about it the next day, and I'm going, "Wait, what? What storm? I slept right through it!". But I have trouble falling asleep when it's particularly noisy. Something as loud as that would definitely have been a real problem. $900 sure would have bought me enough earplugs to not care (haha...do they sell those on board?), but as far as the problem itself? I totally agree that it's ridiculous to expect "the average passenger" to sleep with THAT much noise leakage.

As a side note, I'm only aware of "noisy" cabins because of cruisecritic. I certainly would have expected ALL cabins to be relatively noise-free (except for sounds from neighboring cabins and hallway noise), if I hadn't found this site. And I don't think people should have to be lucky enough to find a non-Carnival sponsored site to discover that Carnival can't promise a sleeping berth that you can actually sleep in, without earplugs. When I stay at a hotel, there's an expectation of quiet inside the room from 9-10pm onward. People will complain if there isn't, and the hotel staff will go tell the high schoolers on a field trip to settle down. :)

New cruisers shouldn't have to guess whether Carnival builds ships well enough to protect them from noise from a FLOOR AWAY. They don't even know to check the decks above and below to see whether there are entertainment venues there. And how would ANYONE suspect that deck chairs scraping might be an issue, when they don't even know for sure what all those blank spaces on the Lido Deck plans contain?? So I'm with the others. Carnival needs to own up about noisy rooms (even if they don't discount them) in the booking process, if they want to claim that it's not their problem. Just my two cents.

It doesn't work that way. Hotels, and theoretically cruiselines, know which rooms or cabins are next to mechanical equipment, H-VAC equipment, the lobby, etc. They are aware that the natural environment of those rooms regardless of who is in the rooms around them is louder than their other rooms. It is taken into account and the rooms are pre-discounted. It's like getting the room next to the AC compressor, it's ten bucks cheaper because you have to deal with the AC compressor. If it's acknowledged thing, there's no reason for "everyone" to suddenly being hearing noises. I think the bigger issue is disclosing that Cabin X is cheaper than Cabin Y because it's right over the hawsehole and subject to higher decibel range noises when dropping or picking up anchor. It's not exactly a selling point.

Well Carnival must have tucked their tails between their legs. We were on the splendor last week and we had the band Voo Doo rocking hard and loud. As soon as the first complaint call came in the band was shut down. 1130 pm.

As I said in my post I was on deck 8 and it was noisy with walking and loud push carts as well as yelling passengers in hallway. I am only saying that my 2 year old would have slept through that and yes it was annoying but I did go to sleep and being said that..I am sure they went to sleep to. I am the average so I am not saying anything that is nuts and I was a first time cruiser that was not warned about nothing and wasn't aware of the noise issue I would be facing.

However I do agree with you on warning customers of which cabins will experience more noise but I still think it is hard to control. I've gone to hotels and had to deal with loud noises because of thin walls and disrespectful guests but again I just chalked it up and moved on. I guess I am just more tolerant than I should be.

We have always booked cabins within 3-5 cabins of the Atrium and have never had any problems at all. Who pick the cabin they were in would be something to know. If they choose it the only person to blame would be themselves. If they booked a guaratee Cabin again it on them.

We were on the Glory a few years back, and had the cabin from hell--it was the back of the ship, Main deck or something, and oceanview. Anyway, the thing vibrated like crazy, (think the I Love Lucy episode when a train went by the hotel room...I kid u not...) Anyway, we were Platinum members at that time, and after the 2nd complaint, (I don't think the Purser got the 1st one) they moved us immediately, and apologized up the wazoo. I wrote Carnival, and all they offered was the 45 day letter. Dummy me, I accepted, not knowing that I could send it back and say it was not acceptable. 4 or 5 cruises have passed, and we have taken all of them with Carnival.....Have 2 booked again already and am looking forward to the FUN which is why we choose this line.

Maybe this family should vacation at a rest home or a cemetery where it is quiet and they can get some rest.
