We would appreciate some info on the Azamara Gibraltar shore excursions. The Upper Rock Walking Tour compared with the Rock of Gibraltar. Does the Rock of Gibraltar also visit the tunnels? How strenouous is the Upper Rock Walking Tour? Thanks.

Don't take the tours, take a taxi to "town". You can walk around on your own and see everything at your own pace.

Go to the internet and get the map of Gibraltar, you can plan your tour using the map and taxis for any distances to far to walk.

We didn't bother with ship's tours. Didn't even need a taxi - walked into town and had a wonderful time exploring. Cathedral Square, the fascinating Gibraltar Museum (w/excavations of Moorish baths), the Garrison Library with its atmospheric garden... Gibraltar is unlike any other port and can be a compelling mix of cultures, history, and contemporary political/economic forces. Enjoy!

We shared a taxi with another couple ($25 each) that took us all the way up the rock. We made stops at the caves , tunnels, and the very top. We also made a few stops just to get out and enjoy the views. The driver paid the admission. He also drove us way up where the buses could not go. We were in comfort and passed the ship tour folks hiking up the steep narrow roads which were too narrow for the buses. We saw more, walked less, and paid a lot less. Also, bargain with the taxi drivers. Better prices as you get closer to the town gates.

Cable car up and walk down was easily managed by both of us, though we're not in the greatest physical condition! If you can walk about three miles and handle a few stairs at a time, you'll be fine.

We picked up a tour at the dock...just walk off the ship, have in mind what you want to see, reach an agreement and off you go. We had one of the best tours ever doing it this way, and were off the "rock" by the time the tour buses arrived. Now wish I could remember the name of the guide, he was superb! His father had done this for years and he had taken over...you could ask around. (He resembled a young Tony Danza).
