1027rm Posted June 20, 2009 #1 Share Posted June 20, 2009 This will be our first cruise. We will leave out of Galveston. Was wondering if best choice would be the 7 day to Mexico, Jamaica and Grand Cayman, or the 7 day to Key West and Bahamas? We have never been to any of these places. Is there a difference in activities on these trips? We are pretty low key people, won't use the casino or bars or anything. Thanks for your help. Beyondships Posted June 20, 2009 #3 Share Posted June 20, 2009 The activities are much the same. The difference is in the cultures of the ports.
firefly333 Posted June 20, 2009 #4 Share Posted June 20, 2009 Actually if you lived in Florida you would think the "eastern" ports are pretty boring, but these ports are new out of Galveston this year, but the Western ports have been the same now for years, so folks wanted a change. That being said if you havent seen either, Id do the Western ports first, which to me are better ports, since you are not tired of seeing cozumel. Eastern costs more because there is more demand because of the newness out of Texas to see these ports via Conquest.
txlady753 Posted June 24, 2009 #5 Share Posted June 24, 2009 I have done 2 west and last week (6/09) did the east. Both were really enjoyable. I would check out the excursions sponsored and not sponsored by the ship and then decide. Jamaica- zip line was awesome, forget the snuba. Could care less to ever go back there (2 cruise, 1 resort trip). Grand Cayman - snorkeling but a very clean and beautiful place we are planning to go back to. Cozumel - ruins take all day, but were great. Did the Jeep tour and that was neat. Key West - Margaritaville walking tour was the best! Pub crawl mixed with local lore and history. Buffet happens to help create history with Cpt. Tony. Still had plently of time for other stops, shopping and eating. Eat at B.O. Fish wagon a block from the marina. Freeport - http://sanddollarcruise.com/ $45 a person with opportunity to get sand dollars. Great snorkeling! Docks at the marina next door to shopping. Lots of time for shopping and eating. Not much else to do in Freeport that we could see or find. Nassau - http://www.stuartcove.com/ $52 on line and loved the sharks! Still had lots of time for eating, shopping or going to more sites. chachi Posted June 24, 2009 #6 Share Posted June 24, 2009 I would take a look at the excursions at each port. Decide which has more things that you would want to do. You will have a great time which ever itinerary you choose.
