What to do in Nassau?

Now that our Caribbean Princess (12/26) cruise has been officially changed to include Nassau, I was wondering what we might do there. I know about the Straw Market. Is there anything else to see? Are any of the resort hotels available to spend time at their pools? Which ones would you recommend?

We weere really looking forward to Princess Cays. Oh well.

Help!

The Atlantis also has a huge aquarium thruout the grounds which are free to anyone to see. From all kinds of sharks, stinrays etc. I believe you can also do a ship excursion threre in which you could get a half day pass to use their water park which are on the grounds. I spent a week threre last year and remember seeing people from cruise lines there. The Atlantis is also a beautiful resort in itself

Joanie, you're on the same cruise I am. We're in Nassau on New Year's Day and for the afternoon the day before disembarkation. I have no idea what will be open and whether I want to spend a whole afternoon "just because we can" the day before we get back to FLL. So, I'm leaving it totally up in the air and making the decision a day or so before we get there.

See you at the CC get-together.

Recommend visiting Atlantis very highly. I have not visited it via a cruise but have stayed there on a land-based vacation several times and it is an absolutely jaw-droppingly-beautiful place with a lot to do and see.

Don't miss the underwater viewing tunnel, the "pretend" architectural digs of Atlantis and the wall-sized aquariums between the Coral and Royal Towers. I know you can pay for a tour of the facilities which then I THINK gives you rights to the pool and beach but I have never taken the tour myself and don't know the details. I'm sure someone here does, though.

You can get a taste of the beauty of Atlantis from a few pix on my website:

I'm not a huge Nassau fan (been there three times) so I would personally stay on the ship. Straw market is kinda cool once, but after a while everything looks the same. Atlantis was also kinda cool -- but very pricey (food in the hotel and the aquarium were very expensive -- there is a part you can see for free but unless you are a hotel guest you have to pay to see the rest). There is a nice beach near Atlantis but you get harassed to buy things from the locals. Sorry for the bummer review -- I am simply not a fan of Nassau. I'd hop off the see the straw market but if you are not into casino's I'd get right back on the ship and enjoy the peace and quiet of a day on the ship at port!

Thanks for the tips. I am on the Star and we are also stopping on New years day. With the Caribbean Princess that makes about 6,000 people just from our 2 ships and assume both ships get there at 12:00. It might have to be a stay on the ship day!

Not sure what you mean about the aquarium being very expensive. What I think of as the aquarium makes up the walls of one of the restaurants (Hall of Great Waters, I think it's called)...you just walk by and look at it. I have been there 4 times now and there has never been anyone asking me to pay to see it...granted, I was a guest of the hotel, but they can't tell I'm a guest unless I've been to the pool and had my armband put on. Perhaps you are talking about The Digs, which I hear does cost to see if you aren't a guest.
