Naples- Amalfi coast suggestions

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

Trying to plan a trip down Amalfi coast on our own taking hydrofoil from naples to positano, then SITA bus to Amalfi and back to sorrento , then hydrofoil back to Naples. Having trouble finding time connections back to Naples. Seems all the hydrofoils leave too late.

Other issue- we are there on a sunday

:)

Anyone ever do this?

Any suggestions?

Thanks!!!!

I tried to find some answers to doing this last year... I find the TRIP ADVISOR to be more helpful in situations like this. Give them a try if you don't get much help here. I heard the hydrofoil service isn't as frequent going all the way down to Positano... we did take it to Capri and then over to Sorrento and then back to Naples. But... I don't know too much about the service further on down the Amalfi Coast??

Good luck!

You do have to be real careful when researching the hydrofoil/jetboats. The problem is that there are several different companies and schedules seem to always be changing. There are actually very few hydrofoils between Sorrento and Positano and Amalfi and their schedules do not always work for port stays (we often stay on the Amalfi coast where we do take advantage of the boats). As to the SITA bus, the route runs from the Sorrento train station along the Amalfi Drive to Positano and than continues on to Amalfi (you need seperate transportation from Amalfi up to Ravello). The SITA bus can often be standing room only and there can be schedule delays due to unpredictable traffic on the 2 lane Amalfi Drive. If you are going to use the SITA bus, you want to make sure you get back to Sorrento a bit early (from where you can take a train back to Naples). When we have used this transportation we always have a "Plan B" (a good idea for any independent traveler) which is how can we catch the ship the following day (this only works if the ship will be docking in Italy or France the following day).

You may be trying to do too much. Traffic on the Amalfi coast is horrendous so travel on the bus may be slow. We stayed for a week in Sorrento and made the bus trip up to Capri. With traffic and allowing time to walk around in Amalfi and Capri took an entire day
