Bora Bora Question

My husband and I spent our fifth anniversay at the Hotel Bora Bora in 1975. We want to go back for our 40th anninversary, but saw the hotel is closed for renovation, and there are several, new, splashy hotels on the island and the motus. We want to stay in a place with the ambience of the Hotel Bora Bora. Although we love the Four Seasons on Maui (and actually, just about any place), we want to stay in a Polynesian hotel; not an American 5 star hotel.

I also read the snorkeling isn't as good because of all of the over water bungalo construction.

My question: Any recommendations for Polynesian hotels like the Hotel Bora Bora with a great beach and superb snorkeling?

Thanks!

Hi

My first trip to FP was in 1979--we stayed at the hotel that had been built for the cast and crew of Hurricane--no locks on the doors etc--they had a few OWB at the time--think it is now the Sofitel---remember walking to the Bora Bora Hotel and wishing that was where we were staying--this was also the year that Bloody Mary's was opened

I don't know which hotel would be equal to Bora Bora Hotel--

We started going to FP for the Tahitian 10 day cruise on Princess--we've taken it 3 times and have stayed at IC Hotels both in Bora Bora and Papette

We're making a tri to FP this coming October staying about 5 nights at IC Bora Bora in an OWB--you can feed the fish right through the living room floor/table--they furnish the bread at the end of the pier most of the time.

We'll stay in BB IC pre-cruise--the Pacific Princess this time--should be just like the Tahitian--normally we stay a day or 2 at the IC Papette but our flight leaves the day we arrive back in Papette.

I'll try to get the info for you--about a polynesian hotel on Bora Bora--this will be our 3rd trip to the Bora Bora La Moana Hotel

I feel your pain aboput not to be able to return at the Hotel Bora Bora.

Quite an unique location, beach, snorkelling etc for Bora Bora

The Hotel Seal mentioned is the Sofitel Marara ( or whatever the name du jour is for that property)

The sister proerty is the Sofitel Le Motu located on the little Motu with just about 20 Bungalows. Thge snorkeling behind the Motu is about the best for Bora Bora.

I have stayed also at the Four Seasons

and found there a qualityu of life and service equalled to what the Hbb offered ( albeit without the snorkelling or incredible tropical foliage and fauna.

And of course you need to book a table at the famed Villa mahana on Bora Bora for your anniversary ( closed though in September )

Thanks Seal and Meherio for your info and pictures. Not sure what we are going to do - will keep reading the postings. We just might go to Hawaii next summer for our anniversary and wait for the Hotel Bora Bora to reopen. Are the rennovations running on schedule?
