Remember to bring ......

Please don't use double sided tape. The doors are magnetic, just use magnets (or magnetic tape which is what I use). Tape could stick to the door and not come off, and then the steward has to clean it..........and they already do quite enough work for us!

Not to worry, we made sure we took down our decorations before we left and there wasn't a thing left on the door. Had no problem getting anything off, no tape or sticky residue left behind. I would never be that inconsiderate of the cabin steward.

Those small things that make a cruise more enjoyable.

Eriktina mentioned in another thread battery operated candles.

A pair of binoculars.

A turtleneck sweater even if you are travelling in warm climates. Makes all the difference if you take a walk on the deck at night.

A gun. (just kidding)

Any more?

Battery Powered candles? Which side of the battery do you light, positive or negative? :D:p:rolleyes: So everyone's covered most of the tips I have. Here are some pointers, if you will, not necessarily stuff you bring, stuff about the boat.

*Someone said bring post-its. These are INVALUABLE! Leave them a note on the minifridge to take all the liquor out if you're not going to buy it--you've got a fridge to keep--I dunno--STUFF cold! Leave a note on the counter to leave extra towels. Leave a note thanking them for the towel animal. Leave a request for tomorrow's towel animal.

*Get a battery powered alarm clock cuz of the FLOOEY (a technical term) AC current on the ship. an electric clock will run anywhere from 10 minutes to HOURS fast.

* Make friends with the cruise director and his staff. They all want you to have the time of your life. Let them. Cruise Director Ray Carr (The greatest Cruise Director in the Galaxy [there was a vote]) created a talent show (they don't, as a rule, have them anymore) just for me and this dude who brought his -- wait for it -- BAG PIPES on board, on the off chance that there would be a talent show. They were his "road pipes."--he made a point of telling us that... Anyway, any kid who brings his Bag Pipes on board should get a few minutes on the main stage....

*Any announcement from the art gallery director can be ignored, unless you want to buy art.

*Don't go to the art auction for the free champagne. The champagne isn't that good and if they run out of their allotment for that event, you're SOL.

*Late night snacking can be done at Blue Lagoon BEFORE 4 am when they clean stuff and their kitchen closes. At that time, the only thing you can get is Room Service food--no matter what you say or how loud you yell.

* No you can't get to the very front of the Libre or Jewel Class' (I'm not certain about the POA, EPIC or Spirit) bows. It's a Staff only Rec Deck.

* No, you can't drive the boat. I asked.

* No, you can't keep your dirt-cheap liquor in your room. You can however drink at the ship's bars and not worry about how much they're charging you until the end of the cruise.

* Make sure you tell the hotel director and the latitudes rep on board how much you want your Latitudes Pins....

* Eat at Cagney's. Get the 36oz Porterhouse and the Colassal Shrimp Cocktail.... yummy!

The best tip I can give is to remember that there are 2500 other people on board who are also on vacation. You don't have to be first in line for everything. If you don't win any of the raffles, the crew is not out to "get" you. There's no board meeting to get to. Trust me, they're not going to run out of food. RELAX, you're on cruise time.

I always bring a travel mug for coffee in the morning, their cups are too small and the travel mug makes it easier to roam around the ship in the morning when its quiet and enjoy the new day!

I completely agree with this. I enjoy ice coffee and didn't care for the coffee bar on the ship. I would make my own ice coffee using a large plastic cup. Best part was that it was free!

It does, and you can make your own: 1 Tbsp of fabric softener to 8 oz of water.

NCL does not provide hair conditioner in most cabins so bring your own.

In the past, the most useful items I have brought are ziplock bags, a power strip, sink pack laundry detergent, a stain remover stick and febreze for keeping the room/closet/clothes smelling fresh.

if i brought everything that was posted here i'd need 1 extra suitcase...lol...but i am taking mini flashlight, battery operated travel alarm clock, over door hanger (cost me $1.38) for toiletries as 4 of us sharing a cabin, some little baggies and some large ones too for dirty laundry, small power strip -- 3 digital cameras and 2 i-pods and 2 nintendo ds lites and sony e-book reader you know all the batteries for these will die at 1x...no tape for us...i'll tell my DH to sit on suitcase if it won't close, after 7 days on a cruise ship it will close with the extra weight..ha ha ha:p

a watch (especially for those that don't normally wear one and rely on their cell phones to check the time)

I would like to recomend the "Time Band Watch" from hogwild. its 10 bucks waterproof and looks and feels like a livestrong band.

I love this thread too...I have laughed and laughed, especially about the 16yo souvenirs, packing the gun and the guy with the bagpipes. Thanks for all the tips-all great. But what on earth do you use the duct tape for? Can think of many amusing answers!!

In addition to the extra eye glasses and repair kit, get an extra set of the nose guards. I found that out the hard way in S.A. They are very difficult to find. These were my only transitional lenses. Next pair I got, I obtained the guards and keep them in the case.

Blessings,

Gail

Bring a pen. We needed one to keep track of what we wanted to do. Also, there are may different drawings going on at different times. We missed some because we couldn't keep track of them all. Also, you need a pen to fill out your disembarkation tickets and duty free forms.

A pair of scissors (not sure if that was mentioned).

I like my favourite strong coffee so if I know there is a coffee maker in the cabin/room I take a pound of my favourite ground fine and some coffee filters from the dollar store. If they are 2 large I just cut the sides down. Most places I've stayed at have the 2 to 4 cup coffee makers so the smaller size filter works. Oh, and I take a spoon to measure. Put it all in a ziplock bag and pack it in the suitcase - well away from anything with a fragrance! Doesn't take much space and very little extra weight. Then I don't have to go buy coffee at the coffee bar as I don't like restaurant coffee and can relax with it in my room. Also great to have with room service breakfast :) If I have room and can take my small electric travel kettle I'll take my French Press to make coffee as I prefer it made that way.

OMG are you serious? A 36oz Porterhouse , I love steak but I'd have to find someone to share with me.... on second thought could be a good excuse to find a single guy who's hungry ;)
