LindaKE Posted July 7, 2009 #1 Share Posted July 7, 2009 One of the reasons we liked Glacier Bay so much was the beautiful scenery getting to the glacier. Does Hubbard Glacier have something comparable? Every reference I see seems to talk only about the glacier itself. Since we want to see something different from our first Alaska cruise, we're debating choosing an itinerary with Hubbard Glacier or one with Tracy Arm. We've seen and walked on glaciers now so would like to see more beautiful scenery with glacier viewing being secondary to scenery. We'd love to do both, but the options seem to be either Hubbard or Tracy Arm but not both on a 7 day cruise. If only DH could take 14+ days off - sigh! Putterdude Posted July 7, 2009 #2 Share Posted July 7, 2009 The scenery in and around the Hubbard Glacier, Yakutat and Disenchantment Bays, is really quite spectacular and there are 5 glaciers there although your really can't see the Variegated Glacier. However the other 4, the Hubbard, the Valerie, the Henke and the Turner are all visible as the ship sails by.:)

Good Afternoon, I thought the scenery into Tracy Arm was far superior to Hubbard. Tracy Arm Fjord was much narrower and had many waterfalls. However, I did the Tracy Arm trip in a small tour boat and don't know how far you go in with the cruise ship!! Do any of the cruises going to Hubbard Glacier have a full day in Juneau docking by around 7am and staying until at least 7pm? If so you could see Hubbard from the cruise ship and see Tracy Arm on the Adventure Bound tour. Good Luck
Budget Queen Posted July 7, 2009 #4 Share Posted July 7, 2009 It is scenic sailing, but not comparable to either Glacier Bay or Tracy Arm. The distance is short and the Hubbard glacier is seen from way off, so forward viewing is best if you want to enjoy the glacier viewing as you sail in. :)

It was spectacular, and the scenery all the way from Icy Straight Point to Hubbard was beautiful.
Wishing on a star Posted July 8, 2009 #6 Share Posted July 8, 2009 I had not realized how incredible the scenery, and the sheer magnitude of Hubbard Glacier might be, until I just found these photos.... Is it okay to post links to some online photos??? If not, somebody let me know and I will remove this. http://community.webshots.com/slideshow/564018209JRibND?mediaPosition=1 http://community.webshots.com/slideshow/563928405WPbvOl?mediaPosition=1 I am looking at the HAL Amsterdam... It goes to Glacier Bay, and also docks at Juneau for a full day so that one can take a day cruise to Tracy Arm. I haven't looked into itineraries with Hubbard yet. I have a couple more links. I will go copy them and past them here momentarily.....
