How much to tackle in 1 day?

We're designing our own tour day in Barbados and want to experience the island (done the catamaran and turtle thing); see some beautiful views; have lunch; visit a beautiful beach; and maybe take in a local bar before returningn to the ship. How much can we realistically do in 1 day and not feel too rushed? Also - what sights/places would you recommend? We definitely want to see Bathesheba. No caves or wildlife reserve. Appreciate any suggestions from those who have visited Barbados. Thanks in advance!

Sounds like you should engage one of the taxi drivers OUTside the Port's gatehouse

and tell him you want to do a scenic island tour that takes in your choice of sites..

1 Gun Hill?

2 St.John's Church?

3 Bathsheba (lunch) ?

4 East Coast Road ?

He'll figure out in what order that makes the most sense, geographically.

Most of those guys will take you wherever you want to go (it's your day!)

-and maybe some more on top of that.

I'd tell him/her exactly what you've outlined here,

that you've already bin there done that for X,Y and Z

so he'll know what not to take you to.

Also let him/her know what time you have to be back by

and to allow for traffic congestion approaching the Port area in the afternoon

which I'm told can be quite something if there are 4 or 5 ships in, on your day!

Bear in mind that even after you get back into the Port's secure area

(where you show your ship-card to get in)

you might still be 15-30 mins. away from actually boarding, okay?

Since you mentioned it..

Bathsheba is an area where you can

* take in the scenery

* walk the beach a bit...NO Swimming unless it's a dip in a tidepool at lo tide

* and have lunch at one of several nearby restaurants, all of which do yummy food

That local bar of yours, before returning to da ship

could be this one right there in the Barbados Cruise Terminal bldg!
