yarlenna Posted May 8, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 8, 2004 The food is much better on Celebrity. The service, entertainment and just about everything else are much better on RCI. I have had ONE Celebrity cruise. Never again! I have had six RCI cruises. While they are having some economic adjustments, I won't be sailing them either. Once they get that straightened out, I'll be back. Work like a dog. Live like a pauper. Save all your money. Then Cruise!
rjg41 Posted May 8, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 8, 2004 Have to disagree. Food much better on Celebrity. Service about the same. More to do on RC. If you want a relaxing cruise go Celebrity. If you want a lot going on go RC. Feel free to check out the links to the review below. Brad1185 Posted May 10, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 10, 2004 Celebrity does not charge for hamburgers unlike RCI, Celebrity offers a different menu each day unlike RCI, Celebrity still offers turndown service, that RCI appears to be phasing out, Celebrity offers towels by the pool, unlike RCI in which you have to go to and from your room everytime. superjerryw Posted May 10, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 10, 2004 Hey Newt, I thought they had you under house arrest on the Celebrity board and you were not allowed to visit any other boards..... Donuts, is there anything they can't do....
babylene Posted May 10, 2004 #9 Share Posted May 10, 2004 On Royal Carib, do you really have to bring towels from your room to the pool?
Gabbiegirl Posted May 10, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 10, 2004 Having sailed both in the last 6 months, Celebrity wins hands down in almost every way. Food better, service better, entertainment-while not as much on Celebrity-it was still better, overall cleanliness better, cruise director-FAR BETTER. We were amazed at how rushed the dinner service was on RCCL. We were in and out of all dinners in one hour, we like the more serene, service oriented dinners on Celebrity. We still enjoyed RCCL and are looking for another in the near future, but we acknowledge that Celebrity is a step above in every way that we know of, RCCL probably does kids activities better, but we didn't have any on either cruise so we can't be sure. One thing- RCCL made no effort to control smoking, Celebrity at least trys. I don't usually care but it was everywhere on this sailing. But we still had a good time!! Ocean Boy Posted May 10, 2004 #11 Share Posted May 10, 2004 Yes you do have to bring the towels from your room to the pool. Once you are there they will exchange your towel for a clean one if you want but they won't just give you a towel. That was one thing that I really appreciated on Celebrity. Also, if you don't have the correct number of towels in your room at the end of the week you get charged $20.00. Newt... are you broadening your horizons and speading out to other boards??? Driftwoodgal Posted May 10, 2004 #13 Share Posted May 10, 2004 RCI did not charge for hamburgers in the Solarium on the Splendour. We got towels from the pool area to use on tours and at the pools. We never even told anyone that we took a towel. There wasn't anyone checking them in or out. Our food was good, but not 4 stars. This was in Feb 2004. God bless you and yours. hess2201 Posted May 10, 2004 #14 Share Posted May 10, 2004 Let me get a few things straight.... we are going on RCI for the first time next week. The pool towel thing blows my mind..!!.. bring my own from the room???I am glad i know this before i get out of the pool. Someone said they CHARGE for hamburgers???? I know johnny rockets has a cover charge, and thats fine. But do they actually charge for burgers down at the grill??? AdrieneAGD Posted May 10, 2004 #15 Share Posted May 10, 2004 Hess - Brad has posted this before, and I'm not sure if he realizes he's misleading people. 1) Pool towels - you will have a "pool towel" in your room. It is distinguished from the bathroom towels in that it is a beige color and the bathroom towels are white. Just carry it with you to the pool. If you want a clean one, you can exchange it poolside. 2) They do NOT charge for hamburgers by the grill, only in JR's. Don't panic, people! hess2201 Posted May 10, 2004 #16 Share Posted May 10, 2004 Thank you for the info. I just am used to towels being by the pool. Thanks for the hamburger info....with prices so low, who knows what they will charge for next! amaddog10 Posted May 10, 2004 #17 Share Posted May 10, 2004 celebrity...nice ship....food is better...a little more formal, though... rci...somewhat more active...and while food wasn't as good as celebrity, it was still good.. what i enjoyed about rci more than celebrity is that rci seemed to have a wider demographic range on the ship...a wider range of ages and backgrounds...that may be a function of the fact that we were on a voyager class ship (navigator)...i just found rci to be more "fun" as opposed to "elegant"...just a personal preference...and...i'd sail either of them again in a heartbeat
ebonybee Posted May 10, 2004 #18 Share Posted May 10, 2004 I like RCCL concierge lounge much better than Celebrity's butler service. No reservation required for informal dinner in Windjammer on RCCL. Service better on Celebrity Everything else about equal.

Rustynail Posted May 10, 2004 #20 Share Posted May 10, 2004 Stretch, Newt won't cruise because he's afraid of the water. He also doesn't like being around crowds of people. newtocc Posted May 10, 2004 Author #23 Share Posted May 10, 2004 Thanks for all the serious responses, RCL sounds like a very nice cruise line, I may have to try it some time, I thought Celebrity was the best, but now I’m having second thoughts! Most of the replies were so nice, I may start posting over here all the time! To the few disgruntled posters, I guess every board has them, some people just can’t be serious! BTW, JC, I’m glad to see you have math skills, apparently, you gradiated da 5th grade! Happy cruising buddy! I believe my next cruise will be with this line, perhaps then I can share some serious information with you.
