The woman in cults and festivals of classical Athens, presented from 20 July until 30 November at the National Archaeological Museum.

 

The antiquities, already presented at the Onassis Cultural Center in New York, consists of 172 precious archaeological findings, the IPU, the museums of the Louvre and the Vatican, the British and the Metropolitan Museum in New York and other leading institutions.

 

Among the antiquities to be exhibited are the marble statues of Artemis and Athena from the National Archaeological Museum, a white pycnometer in the form of Artemis (from the Panos Zografos) from the Hermitage and a red crater kalykotos (assigned to the painter of Iphigeneia ) from the Archaeological Museum of Ferrara.

 

Presented also a red-figure hydria depicting the priestess of Troy, the Theano, the Vatican, and a headstone of Polixeni, emanating from Berlin.

 

The report is divided into five sections: «Thees» dedicated to the worship of female deities, «priestess» with mythical priest, like Theano and Iphigenia, «Women in worship» dedicated women to participate in worship activities, «Festival» on women's participation in major festivals, and the «Cycle Life» Women, which includes events such as birth and childhood, marriage and death.
