cb at sea Posted July 19, 2009 #2 Share Posted July 19, 2009 It truly doesn't matter, as you won't be staying on your balcony for the canal transit...if you were to do so, you'd miss too much! You MUST roam the ship and view the canal from all deck levels and sides of the ship, to get the full effect! Personally, I won't cruise without a balcony---it's like going to a beachfront hotel and having no view of the ocean! Why pay for an ocean-going experience, if you are in an inside or limited view cabin??? But, if you don't think you'll utilize the balcony, go for the lesser priced cabin, and use the open decks....the views are much better there, anyway! Spend the extra money on your tours and forget about deck 6. We take the inside cabin because we don't spend much time in the cabin (shower, change, sleep) While on the Panama Canal cruise last December, we were up on the helicopter pad before 6 am to view the passage.
