Airfares gone up?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else noticed that airfares have gone up this week? I still need flights to Miami for July and have been watching the rates for a few months. They hadn't budged at all until this week...and UGH! They are up by $40.

Airfare has definetely gone up. I noticed that too. They probably won't fall again for July. I would book now if you can.

Yes, I have noticed that too. If one does not live in a city(I do NOT) where there are airlines like Song, JetBlue, Airtran, etc, the airfare is outrageous!! I am surprised that no one on the board has mentioned it before now, as I have been noticing the same thing.

AirTran right now is actually MORE expensive than the major carriers...It makes me wonder if they aren't planning a sale in the near future.

I think we can expect airfares to continue climbing in the future. There are 18-20% fewer seats/flights than before 9-11. ALL the major lines are loosing money big time. They MUST get their costs inline with revenue or fold. JetBlue, Southwest and Airtran are all profitable and Airtran and JetBlue are both expanding service and buying new airplanes. I really like Airtran. They have sales about every 3 or 4 wks. They are Boeing's biggest civilian customer with 110 new planes on order. They will start taking delivery of new 737-700 aircraft in July and will then be operating only two aircraft types which is more economical than 4 or 5 or 6 aircraft type.

I was just mentioning Bestfares.com on another thread. I checked Dayton-Miami and it's $198. Is this good? I fly from the West Coast, so I don't know what your fares are from OH.

I have been waiting to book air for our sailing 10/31/04 hoping that it would come down (the fare has been approx $60pp more than we paid last time we flew to orlando), but I just checked today and the fare has gone up $40pp. Should I book now, or should I wait until late summer/fall to book hoping that the prices will go down? At these prices, we may decide to just drive down with some of our group (it is only a 10-12 hour drive). All you travelers give some insight.

Trish. Of course you are right that fuel prices are effecting the bottom line lately.
I kind of expect the institution of fuel
surcharges any time for airlines. I think
it's necessary. If the fuel prices continue
to spiral up, then a modest fuel surcharge
could be requred by cruiselines.

Same site: bestfares, is $170 Raleigh-Ft. Lauderdale.

I have no idea is these are laughable or good. No sense of cost other than CA....

BestFares price doesn't include taxes and fees...by the time you add that, it is the same as all the others.

Well, if you keep an eye on all the sites to compare, bestfares can come in with the cheapest. Still haven't seen the London fare for my son any cheaper, and we bought it last December.

I always add some fees mentally to all the fares quoted. I wish everyone would just add them in up front, so we can see what the fare REALLY is.

Airfare is crazy! I love Airtran, but they have gotten really high lately. Delta has been the cheapest for me, even though I hate them. Flew American to Miami last week. I can't wait to live in Florida so that I don't have to fly to a port...unless I go out of San Juan!

I'm booked on the Voyager in Nov and will probably book on Airtran from Philly this week. Last week their price was around $81 b/t one way. We will fly into Orlando for a few days and come back from Ft. Lauderdale. No penalty for different city on return flight. One of the other airlines price was out of sight just to go into Miami. With Airtran, they have one cheap flight leaving early in the day then the rates go up on the other flights.

I too prefer Airtran. They offer sales about every three wks. The youngest fleet of aircraft in the business. 100% fresh air in the cabin instead of recirculating. And they still allow three checked bags up to 70 lbs ea.
Oh. And they are profitable. What a unique way to run an airline.

Two weeks ago I booked non-stop flights for our cruise in November. The tickets from Cincinnati to Ft. Lauderdale were $275 per person. I just checked the same flight today and they were $539 per person. I am so glad I made my reservations when I did. This is during the Thanksgiving holiday. When I called my travel agent to make the reservations she thought I was crazy to book this far out. I just like to have everything paid for well in advance and then all the money I save between now and then is spending money!! YAHOO. I guess I have an extra $500 bucks to spend. I might just have to do a spa treatment.

I need flights to orlando for 10/17 and last mth I checked the price and it is now $40 cheaper than it was then, and if you go to priceline it is even cheaper and you don't have to bid, but you have to accept the flights and times they give you. I think I'm gonna have to book my flight real soon to get the price I want.

Just booked my air to Orlando from Philly and from Ft. Lauderdale back to Philly. Final cost was $90p/p each way non stop on Air Tran. We're doing a 3 nite pre cruise at our Hilton time share in Orlando. That is costing us $200 for a 2 bedroom suite. Can't beat that for a quality inexpensive mini vacation.
