Le Verdon?

Does anyone have information on Le Verdon? Our cruise in September has Le Verdon as one of it's first ports. Many people are taking 8+ hour tours. We would prefer to see some local sights. Recommendations would be really appreciated:)

You realize you bumped up a post from 2009 :). When we spend time in this region (Bordeaux) our main activity is visiting wineries. Even if you are not an oenophile, it is fascinating to see how some of the best wineries in the world make their wine. One reason you had to go back to 2009 to find a post is that Le Verdon is not a very popular port. It is probably good for the cruise line because they will sell a lot of excursions. Doing things on your own will be difficult because there probably are no rental car companies near that port. Train service is also near worthless. So you will probably need to book a cruise line excursion or put together a private tour. Personally, we do love this part of France and it does have some beautiful old towns such as St Emillion. We even enjoy Bordeaux (have stayed there a couple of times) but many would say its basically a mid size city with nothing out of the ordinary. But Bordeaux does have some decent night life and restaurants (not too helpful for most cruisers).

We're on the same cruise with a departure date of Nov. 6, 2012. If you visit our board, looking at the last 4 pages of postings there is quite a lot of info regarding Le Verdon, i.e. the train schedules from/to Bordeaux and the details of a private tour, The Best of Bordeaux & Medoc (10 hours), which I have just scheduled for 16 people. If you have any questions you can contact me at jimcline4 at yahoo dot com.
