WestCoastCruiser123 Posted July 27, 2009 #1 Share Posted July 27, 2009 I am planning a cruise with three people in an ocean view cabin. Would it be better to choose a room that has a bunk bed that pulls down from the wall or is the rollaway okay in the room? Just wondering which is more comfortable and also more tolerable in the tight cabin spaces. Thanks for your help.
jas1178 Posted July 27, 2009 #2 Share Posted July 27, 2009 Upper is the way to go hands down!
firefly333 Posted July 27, 2009 #3 Share Posted July 27, 2009 Im assuming that you are booking a older ship, since only the older ships that allow 5 to a cabin have rollaways .... did they give you a choice? The bunks would give you more space to walk around. They fold them back up during the day. The rollaway can be semi folded, but will still take up some floor space for walking around. yst347 Posted July 27, 2009 #4 Share Posted July 27, 2009 We took my wife's mom on a cruise a few years back. She is in her eighties so climbing into an upper was out of the question. We considered a rollaway as they were available on Elation, but opted for an upper. I am glad we did. I slept in the upper and while it was not as comfortable as the lowers it was just fine for its purpose. While I know the rollaway would only be open at night it would use most of the available space left in the cabin. The upper leaves the cabin clear. It made sense for us. WestCoastCruiser123 Posted July 27, 2009 Author #5 Share Posted July 27, 2009 It is the Paradise so rollaways are an option. Sounds like I'm going with the upper based on your advice. Thanks for the replies.
yogi2929 Posted July 27, 2009 #6 Share Posted July 27, 2009 You will have plenty of room especially if you keep the lower beds as twins.
Onyxsky Posted July 27, 2009 #7 Share Posted July 27, 2009 I've slept on an upper and loved it. My own little space and it could be folded away during the day. I don't remember having a bad nights sleep. ;) Of course I was 23 at the time.
SDPadreFan Posted August 5, 2009 #8 Share Posted August 5, 2009 I would agree that the upper is the way to go. The rollaway is workable but it sure does cut down on cabin space when it is open. We used one for my 83 year old mother-in-law on a 5 day Elation cruise and it worked. We left it open the whole time. Longer than a short cruise, and it might get more annoying however.
