crestofawave Posted July 29, 2009 #1 Share Posted July 29, 2009 Last few point in advance of our first Cruise and first Seabourne ( Legend ) in a couple of weeks. We have order our two bottles for the suite via the web site, picking brands from the list despite favourites not on the list - didn`t want to create a fuss. One person in each of the two cabins don`t drink so do we need to order soft drinks for them Coca Cola, Dr Pepper etc or is that something that will done on request whilst on board. Presumably they serve soft drinks in all the restaurants. One of my party likes Mint Choc Chip Ice Cream and Cabury Chocolate Spread would this be going to far to request. Can you get ice cream any time of the day. Can you arrange to have a bottle of wine / champagne delivered to your suite if you don`t fancy what is in you in suite bar for a change. If we take our own UK dvd will they play in suite. Sorry if this is trivial to all you seasoned Seabourne cruisers which we hope to be in time and will help novices like us in the future. I appreciate i have asked many points, a big thanks and i promise to post a review of our trip.
Martita B. Posted July 29, 2009 #2 Share Posted July 29, 2009 My suggestion is when you board, check in and go to your suite (you will be escorted) ask your sweet Stewardess as to the soft drinks ~~also your choice of champagne or other liquors. As to the ice cream request visit with the dining room Maitre'D. As far as I know ice cream is available 24/7. I'm sure a UK board member will chime in and answer your dvd question. I'm sure you will have a most grand and special voyage aboard the Legend! Bon Voyage Martita B.
JaneBP Posted July 29, 2009 #3 Share Posted July 29, 2009 I think that if you can, fill out all the requests on the paessenger information form. Put you favorites on the list. Thre will be a bottle of champagne in your suite on arrival. When it's done, you can get more. The sodas are no problem, but Dr Pepper might not be as plentiful. Also, noting the fondness for mint chip ice cream and the sauce help insure that it's on board. You can get ice cream onboard anytime. It's on the room service menu. But I would pre-order the kind you like.Sodas are available at every meal, although sometimes I take a Diet Coke to breakfast to make it easier on the wait staff. However, most things are easily changed if they are not right.
wripro Posted July 29, 2009 #4 Share Posted July 29, 2009 Just to clarify, once you have finished the bottle of champagne you receive at embarkation you can order all the glasses of champagne you want without charge but if you order another bottle in your suite you will be charged. So just order as many glasses as you think you will drink. Rinse and repeat!!!! Frankly, I have never understood this policy.

crestofawave Posted July 29, 2009 Author #6 Share Posted July 29, 2009 Any pointers to the DVD question?? So that we are not charged for delivered Champagne or Wine do i need to ask for 3 times the number pf glasses. ie 3 glasses each for two. Cheer as they say
Farscaper Posted July 30, 2009 #7 Share Posted July 30, 2009 It's funny, but all I can visualize now are people asking for champagne fountains or so many glasses that you create a Christmas tree formation with four waiters carrying the tray in. Strange how logic loses out to commerce at times. Surely it would be easier and more economical to bring another bottle but perhaps they tired of seeing so many good bottles gone to waste, half empty. Personally, neither of us care for bubbly. Tillylovesseabourn Posted July 30, 2009 #9 Share Posted July 30, 2009 Any pointers to the DVD question?? Hi,I wouldn't have thought they'd play, as most of the DVD's we've had we borrowed from the ships own collection, which is pretty extensive I might add! I would imagine they are from the US, and in the past we've thought of purchasing DVD's in the US, but they would'nt play correctly at home. TBH I wouldn't think it will be a big problem for you when you get on board,as there are PLENTY of FABULOUS distractions on Seabourn. Enjoy, but WARNING it WILL spoil you for most other cruise lines.:D
Farscaper Posted July 30, 2009 #10 Share Posted July 30, 2009 I am afraid I understand..there would be those who continued to order the bottles and pack them and take them home. Ugly, but true!:( Ha. Like what we plan to do with the bath soaps it seems. I imagine that for those people, even pulling the corks would not deter them. Actually I think we'll feel guilty even sneaking an apple with us on our day trips. We eat light during the day but plan to make up for it at dinner. I hesitate to ask but has anyone ever requested a packed lunch or snagged some cheese and crackers from breakfast?
JaneBP Posted July 30, 2009 #11 Share Posted July 30, 2009 I requested and received a box lunch for a day out in Guatemala. (Hope it wasn't against health rules.) I ordered a ham and cheese sandwich, water, banana, and extra cookies (for the driver and guide). NOTE: My sandwich came with lettuce and tomato, so by lunch it was soggy, and I hadn't thought I would get more than just ham, cheese, and mustard. So be specific. On the trip, the guide wanted to take me to a jade factory and showroom where the guides/drivers are given lunch. So, I sat in the car and they went in for their free lunch. I liked being in the quiet car watching the street activity. They loved the cookies. Other times I have pocketed a banana or apple for a mid-morning snack if I get peckish. Often, for a long bus trek, Seabourn sends coolers with water and nibbles and sometimes sends a waiter along to help. How great is that?
HotRoot Posted July 31, 2009 #12 Share Posted July 31, 2009 We always request a "box" lunch when going ashore. We order it at dinner the night before and it is delivered to our cabin in the morning with our breakfast. We let the chef surprise us as to the contents. We have never been disappointed. Martita B. Posted July 31, 2009 #13 Share Posted July 31, 2009 Another nice touch is "Tony", Pride pastry chef, always sends me a big box of freshly baked cookies the morning we disembark ~~the treats are so nice to nibble on either at a post hotel or at the airport. GrannyLorr Posted July 31, 2009 #14 Share Posted July 31, 2009 We asked for a packed lunch when we were visiting St Barts, so we could have a picnic on the beach! We asked for egg sandwiches but were told we couldnt have those....I didnt ask, so not sure if "eggs" werent allowed to be taken onshore, or maybe it was a health issue with eggs spoiling.....whatever the reason those in the galley know what you are allowed and what you are not! Of course in some countries, Australia being one, you are not allowed to take food in at all. We just took water with us as we had hired a car for the day, but if you are not driving you can ask for champagne!! (or anything else that takes your fancy!) GrannyLorr Posted July 31, 2009 #15 Share Posted July 31, 2009 I am afraid I understand..there would be those who continued to order the bottles and pack them and take them home. Ugly, but true!:( Of course that would only apply to those who get excess luggage for $20!! ;) For me to take a bottle of champagne in my luggage, the airline excess would cost probably what 10 bottles would cost!! joyous Posted August 1, 2009 #16 Share Posted August 1, 2009 The only time we were on, years ago on the Sun, the stewardess took our empty and brought a full one. If you drank all your champagne seems they would bring another when you passed over the empty! joyous
LN50 Posted August 4, 2009 #17 Share Posted August 4, 2009 I have looked at the section on website for pre-ordering bar set up. Just wondered if it was possible to specify a brand or particular type of spirit before boarding or is there an extra charge for that. I was wondering about cognac, as it is not on the list, maybe a Martell Medallion or is this classed as a premium brand, and possiby a Bombay Sapphire for my usual G&T. Or is it best to just go with what they have? Also do they provide diet/lite mixers.... got to make a nod to some calorie savings... tee hee. Linda :)
JaneBP Posted August 4, 2009 #18 Share Posted August 4, 2009 I have never requested special liquor as a pretty much non-drinker, but you should always specify what you would prefer. Also, note which mixers you would like. Seabourn is very interested in adding to the cruise enjoyment and I suspect that your preferences will be met. Someone else can comment if there is a charge and/or if i am off-base about the liquor. I am a confirmed proponent of letting Seabourn know ahead of time of any special requests like your set-ups. However, they are ever so accommodating.

Linda :) Don't know about your coynac, but we always order couple things that aren't on the list Crown Royal and Johnney Walker Black Scotch--we always find them in the suite when we board. As Jane mentioned no problem with the lite and diet mixers--your room gal can take care of that. Don
lifelover Posted August 6, 2009 #20 Share Posted August 6, 2009 It's always amazing what you learn by reading other posts! We haven't ordered a bottle of champagne for our room but we have ordered bottles of wine and never been charged. Also, because my husband likes to sleep later and I get up at the crack of dawn, I started ordering my breakfast yogurt to be delivered in the evening. Now Paul can sleep without being disturbed by room service in the early mornings! We use room service quite a lot, especially in the days toward the end of our cruises. We have never been refused any of our requests. The staff always tries to say "yes".
Chairsin Posted August 6, 2009 #21 Share Posted August 6, 2009 We have never been charged for bottles of champagne. On this recent trip we had a cocktail party and they brought a bottle automatically and told us to call if we needed more(we did not need to as we used the one in our frig when the first one was gone). Our friends also had a cocktail party and they likewise were not charged for the champagne that was brought to their suite.
Martita B. Posted August 6, 2009 #22 Share Posted August 6, 2009 I have never been charged for champagne or any other liquor I wanted. When JB hosts his "Morning Champagne Social's" friends bring their bottles of champagne, but if we need more bottles, the Bar Manager sends them. Martita B. crystal808 Posted August 6, 2009 #23 Share Posted August 6, 2009 Interesting.... When I had a get-together in Suite 101 a couple of years ago on the Legend, I asked for champagne & orange juice to make mimosas for my guests. I was told that they would only bring glasses of champagne, with orange juice on the side, and that if I wished for "bottles" of champagne, they would have to charge me for them. The Hotel Manager came by my suite to discuss it with me the afternoon before. As it turned out, they brought plenty of "glasses" of champagne (probably 18), and we didn't need any more (and didn't consume all that they brought). I thought it a bit odd at the time, but didn't make a fuss! (I don't usually "do" fusses!! LOL!) However, they were apparently interested in making sure my party went well without having to "charge" me for excess.... That, by itself, was a classy approach...as it always is...! Paul ;)
