Krazy Kruizers Posted August 10, 2009 #2 Share Posted August 10, 2009 Welcome to Cruise Critic. I would count it -- on our Westerdam cruise from San Diego to Seattle there was one.

DutchByAssociation Posted August 11, 2009 #4 Share Posted August 11, 2009 Almost guaranteed. Most 3 days will offer one, so I have to think a 5 day will. Also, keep in mind the general rule of thumb on HAL is 2 formal nights per week. As 5 days is the majority of a week, it's reasonable to assume there is 1. clogaltocruise Posted August 11, 2009 #5 Share Posted August 11, 2009 We did not have a formal night on our 5-day Pacific Northwest cruise in May. However, you will have more sea days and that will probably be the difference. Enjoy your cruise!

clogaltocruise Posted August 11, 2009 #7 Share Posted August 11, 2009 Hi ~ We were on the Statendam sailing of May 5th. Our cruise documents also showed there were no formal nights.
RedmondCruiser Posted August 11, 2009 #8 Share Posted August 11, 2009 I'd bet that the second night out will be a formal night. Sometimes the ship can make alterations to the dress code as they wish. In past years they had a semi formal night - (sport coat required - tie optional ) The Westerdam had it listed but when we got on the ship they had eliminated it. We dressed anyway and the matre de asked "are you European ?" ---- Casual is the wave of the future weather we like it or not. just hope that it does not get down to "clean tee shirts required" or "acceptable logos on your baseball cap only"
Juanita462 Posted August 12, 2009 #9 Share Posted August 12, 2009 Our docs for this cruise - we are doing the 13 days - says 3 formal nights so I suspect there will be one between Van and San Diego.

Hopmont Posted August 14, 2009 Author #11 Share Posted August 14, 2009 Thanks for all your information. We just got off a golden princess alaska cruise and saw amazing dress for formal night in the dining room.....sweatshirts...shorts...wow...this was the most lax. So, it does not really matter what you wear these days...for some anyway.:d
