Bridgeplayer@sea Posted August 12, 2009 #1 Share Posted August 12, 2009 Hi, anyone have any ideas on a place to go to get lobster and mussels in St John or Halifax. We are not interested in the big tourist places just a local pub or restaurant is what we are looking for. Thanks Bill:rolleyes:

Thanks Bill:rolleyes: Bill, have been to St. John and Halifax before and found wonderful seafood at local pubs, but honestly don't remember the names! All I remember is when you get off the ship the towns are quaint and small and filled with wonderful places to eat. You shouldn't have any problem finding a great place to enjoy your seafood:)
PhoneGoddess Posted August 12, 2009 #3 Share Posted August 12, 2009 Salty's in Halifax. I'm not sure of the exact location, but I walked there from the ship. If you like calamari, theirs is fantastic! :)

ioanab Posted August 13, 2009 #6 Share Posted August 13, 2009 For mussels (and great beer! :p) there's The Maxwell's Plum in Halifax: http://themaxwellsplum.com/home.html. Definitely not a touristy place either!
hypercafe Posted August 13, 2009 #7 Share Posted August 13, 2009 In StJohns if you dock in the town rather than across the harbor there is a great sea food bar place right accross the street from the ship, its the place the crew goes for their lobster. We are going for the sixth time Sept 12 from NYC.

Thanks Bill:rolleyes: I live in Halifax, and you can get lobster dinners at a number of Halifax restaurants along the waterfront, or near the waterfront - Waterfront Warehouse, Murphy's Restaurant at the Cable Wharf, Salty's, McElvie's and Bluenose II Restaurant. Being a tourist area, all of the restaurants cater to tourists, so it is hard to find a local one that doesn't. The Bluenose II is probably the "most" local restaurant, nothing pretentious about it. It is a block up from Historic Properties. I have only had lobster once along the waterfront, and it was at Murphy's, which was very good.
