Jodster19 Posted August 12, 2009 #1 Share Posted August 12, 2009 :)Hi, Hubby and I are going on our second cruise this winter. This time we are trying Princess cruises. Last time we went with Costa, which was great by the way. Anyway, we will be on the Ruby, Eastern Caribbean. Just wondering how tipping works? On Costa, it was a set price that you just paid at the end instead of having to worry about tipping each and every person. Worked out terrific. Hope Princess is the same. Also, is it possible to bring some hard liqour on board in our check in luggage? Also, on Costa it was not a problem at all. Thanks to everyone who can help us out with these questions. collegecruiser346 Posted August 12, 2009 #2 Share Posted August 12, 2009 I cruised on the Caribbean Princess last march, but their tipping procedure is the same on all ships. A service charge of $10.50 per person per day is added on to your ship board account. ($11 if you are in a suite). This money is divided up amongst the staff you would normally tip. Then a $15% gratuity is added to any bar purchase for the bartender. As far as taking hard alcohol on board, its against their rules, but some people do try it, and they do get away with it. Other people are caught, and their alcohol is confiscated and then they get it back at the end of the cruise. The worse that will happen is that they confiscate it. cb at sea Posted August 12, 2009 #3 Share Posted August 12, 2009 Basically, anything you purchase while on the ship will be paid for at the end----you're "charging" to your room, just like in a hotel.
househunter Posted August 13, 2009 #4 Share Posted August 13, 2009 However, there will be an additional 15% tip added to each slip that you sign for alcohol or soft drink purchases. Princess does not allow you to bring your own hard liquor onboard. If they find it in your luggage when they scan and xray, they will confiscate it and keep it until the end of the cruise. I think you are allowed to bring on 1 bottle of wine per person.
Jodster19 Posted August 14, 2009 Author #5 Share Posted August 14, 2009 Thanks so much. You people have been a great help. Im really glad about the tipping. It sure makes it easier. That way no one is left out because they sure treat you great on a cruise ship. Can hardly wait. Only 208 more sleeps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)
