Back 2 Back ??????

My fiance and I have both cruise before but we are thinking about doing a back to back in January. We are currently booked on the Gem on 1/13/10 and are thinking about booking the 1 nighter the night before. My question is how do back to backs work.. Do we have to fully disembark or can we stay onboard???

Just wondering

Everyone disembarks.. that's the rule, but you can wait in an area where you'll be let back on first thing. If you book the same cabin for both legs, you can leave your things in there and don't have to pack them up and take them with you.

I've heard that if you have a different cabin booked, the staff will be happy to assist you in moving your things.

Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials!

Disembark varies depending on the port and desitinations.

If you do a one nighter that does not go through customs, all is cool.

We did a NYC one nighter followed by regular cruise. No customs, etc since we did not visit a foreign port.

They had to swipe us out to clear the ship but we had also been to a foreign port. We lounged around until all the color luggage tags were called and were the last to leave the ship and were escorted back on with the first group. Take anything that you may want from your cabin because you most likely won't be allowed back until the new guests are allowed to their cabins.

yeah all of the above. that's the key.

sounds like your 1 nighter CTN is first...so you won't have to disembark...since you didn't visit a foreign port.

if the 1 night CTN was on the end...then yes...you'd have to disembark, pass through customs, and right back on the ship. but...you'll be the last ones to disembark.

Oh well, I stand corrected. Sorry to have misled the OP. In watching the CNBC special about the Pearl, I thought I heard them say all pax must be off the ship at a certain point before the new pax embark. No?

In other words, regardless of whether or not you have to go through customs, you still have to leave the ship for a period of time before embarking for your 2nd leg.

...

I think that statement is somewhat true. They do want to get everyone off before they start over again. In reality it is not 100%. Like I said, when we did a one night in NYC followed by a 6 day, we were not required to get off.

Actually, we decided to leave and walk to Times Square.

By the way, on our New Orleans trip, when we boarded we passed some people that were just getting off.

you are still correct...but specifically for a foreign port...in order to clear the manifest. kinda like hitting the reset button (that our beloved Hillary gave to Russia...oh boy). :D

We did a back to back on Norwegian Sun in and out of Houston in December 2005. Both legs were the same itinerary to Mexico, Belize and Honduras. We did NOT have to disembark on the turnaround. We did have to change rooms and the crew brought a luggage carrier and made it very easy. The room steward for our second room said he received our requests from the previous room steward! We went to the front desk and had new room keys issued, We were the first in line for the lunch buffet! It was all very easy. Maybe the rules have changed but that was our experience. I hope your experience is good too!

Well I hope that we can stay on the ship and relax while all the new passengers reboard the ship. It looks like we will have the same cabin so we wont have to move any of our belongings. Plus I can get my unpacking done a day ealier Wooooo Hooooo

We are also okay if we need to get off the ship so they can clear it but I would like to be able to get right back on and not have to wait in line. The last time we cruised out of NY it was a nightmare. So I am hoping that this one will go a little more smoothly.

i would have to guess that more recent times require different procedures. it is pretty awesome you didn't have to disembark. but our Sky back 2 back (last week)...essentially same itinerary (minus Freeport on 3 day)...we did have to pass through customs.

we had same cabin...so no change in keycards.

We did B2B cruises on the GEM in Feb, and had the same cabin but had to get new keycards issued, so it looks like there may be different standards for different ships. Maybe because we did a Carribean cruise, followed by a Bahamas/Fla itin.

We did a 10 day followed by a 7 day and were required to meet in the bowling alley and had to exit the ship (escorted), and wait in the VIP area before being led back on the ship before the rest of the new passengers.

interesting. not that i am saying you are incorrect. did you just purchase 2 separate cruises that happened to have the same cabin? more specifically, what was your disembarkation date on your keycard on your first leg.

i guess it just depends on the ship one sails.

I just checked Steve's key cards, since I can't locate mine. They both have the same disembarkation date on them, they are different colors....if that matters. The cruises were initially booked as a B2B2B, and we had to cancel the first cruise at the last minute....so I assume they were kept as B2B.

Just a thought, but maybe new keycard because Steve made it to GOLD after completing the first cruise.

Although the other 12-13 B2B cruisers were also issued new cards now that I think of it....so it can't be because of the changing latitude status thingy. The new cards were issued on the ship before we were led off........we didn't have to show credit cards again and go through those lines back in the terminal area.

now i'm convinced NCL is keep us on our toes so they don't seem so "predictable". on a similar (though not as glamourous), DW went from bronze to silver on our recent B2B. hehhehehehehe.

Maybe the ships staff/crew is allowed to do "what-ever" as well as the passengers are. :D
