majesty ocean view

Recommended Posts

It depends entirely on the individual cruiser. You will get a lot of answers from people who would never pay extra for an ocean view.

Personally, I think I could do an interior cabin for a short cruise because we don't spend that much time in the room. But DS can not stand the thought of staying in what she calls a closet.

On the smaller ships - Majesty and Monarch if you are traveling as a couple you have to stand on the bed to see out the window, but you do get the natural light.

Look around the boards and you will find photos on inside cabins, then make your decision.

We recently returned from a cruise on Monarch and our bed was parallel to the window instead of perpendicular so you didn't have to climb on the bed to look out the window. Also, there was a nice sized window ledge so I was able to sit on it and get a view of the ports. It would be worth the $40 to me.

Thanks for the update. When we were last on Majesty we did the twin set up and the beds were parrallel to each other. On Monarch in Dec we had the beds together and they were under the window. We'll be on Majesty again in Nov with beds together. I'll report back on the set up.

Yes, that is exactly what just happened to me and now I feel like a fish just reeled into the boat ... sucker! We wanted to do a cheap cruise on Majesty and they had great deals on inside cabins which we have never done on this ship before. Then when I looked at cabins, for $60 more we could have a minimum 119 sq. ft. OV stateroom so we thought that it would be a better idea to let some natural light in. I looked at the picture of the OV for 119 sq. ft and noticed the bed parallel to the window with a little book shelf on one side and padding on the wall of the other.

I immediately said that won't work because I am 6'4" and didn't want to sleep every night in the "cradled position", so we then looked at the next category OV for 122 sq. ft which had the bed still parallel to the window, but without a bookshelf/padding at the end of the bed but that cat. was an additional $40 more.

End of story, we ending up booking a Jr. suite:eek: for the extra room and balcony as we thought we would end up enjoying the cruise that much more. I guess I'll be spending a lot time on that balcony to make me feel better!:D So much for the "cheap" cruise!

On Majesty's Deck Seven the OV window faces out on the prominade. You need to keep your curtains closed much of the time because folks passing by can see right in. Even if you do open your curtains, you are looking out on the prominade. The view is just OK. Plus the room we had, the smokers' ash can and chairs were right outside our window, so folks sat there much of the day and even late into the night.

For my opinion, our room was very little better than an inside. That said, an OV on Deck Six or Deck Eight would be worth the $40 extra. I really DON'T like insides because I feel closed in.

What you can do is ask for an OV guarantee for a cheaper price, but you can't choose your room then and you might end up with the Deck Seven OV or the lowest deck OVs that have a tiny porthole.

LOL - I want to cruise with you! DH is 6' 4" and with the bed longways under the window he was just fine.

I had my P's all screwed up. On our first cruise we were on Sovereign with the twin bed set up - one under the window and the other perpendicular to the window. On our first Majesty cruise with the beds apart we were Perpendicular to the window. When DH and I were on Monarch with the beds together they were perpendicular to the window.

I also vote yes on the OV. :D I would personally not sail in an interior because I do appreciate the natural light and find myself in the room more often than expected. We tend to sleep less on a cruise than at home and have more of the day for things...but I like a power nap in the early evening while the GF showers and gets ready for the evening.:p

I'm 6'4" as well and haven't had any problems. Our first cruise was an OV on Majesty and the beds were together under the window. Our last cruise was on Majesty was a SOV with beds together and parallel to the window. There is a good size ledge for a normal size person (not me) to sit on. The attendent stored the pillows on it at night.

We decided on the superior oceanview on deck 9 because of the extra room and the larger window. I know the view will be obstructed, but with the price drops we got, it ended up being less expensive than the original inside we had booked on deck 4. I personally wanted the extra square footage in the room, so I think we got a good deal. It's all about personal preference!:)

We always take an inside cabin on the short 3 or 4 day cruises - we just turned down an upgrade to OV on our upcoming Majesty cruise. The time that we spend in the cabin is to sleep, shower and dress, and I appreciate the absolute darkness of the cabin the morning after staying up late so that I can sleep in a little longer if I want. For $40 or $60 more, I would just put that money aside towards another short cruise! If you want to wake up with light, just turn your TV onto the station that shows the bow of the ship - as the sun comes up, so will the light in your cabin start to brighten....

Another consideration is which OV - where it's located. Many are obstructed views, and your view could be of a lifeboat - that would definitely NOT be worth it!

Actually, we think that the obstructed view cabins on deck 8 are, usually, a great value. They are some of the lowest price OV cabins, have a large window (not a porthole) that lets in a lot of light, and do not have the promanade walkers to worry about.

If you can swing it, and the price is not much different, the OV (superior?) on deck nine are nice because of the additional space and little corner couch.

Thanks everyone. I booked the interior, but I will think about upgrading now. It is our 20th anniversary. But, budget is an issue with one son going to college next year. We will be drinking and those drinks are expensive, so I have to weigh my options. This is a great site. Thanks again.

One thing that no one else (including me) had mentioned.

I've sailed in both.

I know that the website says that the OV is 122 sq ft and the interior is 119 sq ft.

Even if that is true, those 3 sq ft make a huge huge huge difference.

The interior FELT much smaller. The storage is MUCH less.

I am back again to urge you to reconsider. :)

Having done inside, outside, obstructed view and recently JS, look at the Obstructive view rooms on 8th floor. Don't buy lunch for a week and you have the $40.00.

I have a pink piggy bank on my desk and at the end of the day or every other day, I empty the change into it. That will be some of my play $$ on the ship for the casino. For two months, I brought my lunch - deposited $5 each day in "piggy" and stopped going to Starbucks! Have a great cruise.

I guess I better never leave my GS balcony on the Majesty then. I paid 900 to upgrade to a balcony when the cruise was free. Tom is 6'5" and there was no way we would fit in one of those small rooms. The TA my company uses told me at the time the JS were all gone. Of course now, there are some open. I think we'll eat diinner in the room every night. ;)

We are on the Majesty in March and are trying to decide if beds together or not. We are on Deck 4 in an F1. Would love to hear how the beds are set up and get any guidance from more experienced folks

Deck 4 has F2s and Deck 5 has F1s...not that there appears to be a difference.

But anyway the moral of that story is my first cruise was on Deck 4 (4554) of the Majesty in an F2. We had the beds together and the head and one side were against a wall. Only the foot and one side were not and it was arranged with the head under the window. The rooms are not large but we managed and had a great time! :D

Thanks! I got my "F's" mized up! (we looked at so many categories!)

One more question: If we have them put the beds together but when we board we figure out that configuration will not work, could they be taken apart? I don't want to over tax the cabin steward but wonder. Has anyone done this?
