lancet Posted August 20, 2009 #1 Share Posted August 20, 2009 Hi, Wife and I will be arriving at Port Everglades Ft. Lauderdale, but flying out of FLL at 7:15 PM. We will have a bunch of time to kill. Hate sitting around the airport for 7-8 hours. Anyone have suggestions where to go (not too far away) to help pass the time. We were thinking of storing the luggage at 'bags to go' at FLL, and taking a cab to the beach/wharf area. Any suggestions there? Any simple tours? Thanks Lancet
Rare Keith1010 Posted August 20, 2009 #2 Share Posted August 20, 2009 Just wanted you to know that you posted this on the West Coast board rather than the Florida Ports of Call Board. Keith
Putterdude Posted August 21, 2009 #3 Share Posted August 21, 2009 I'd agree with Keith1010, however my suggestion would be a cruise on the Jungle Queen....its a bit touristy but interesting and fun. http://www.junglequeen.com/
rjscott Posted August 21, 2009 #4 Share Posted August 21, 2009 Lately some cruise ships are offering a couple of postcruise tours that simplify what to do while waiting for those late flights. The Jungle Queen or the Carrie B intercoastal cruise is one choice and another is a combo tour of an airboat ride and a tour of Flamingo Gardens. We did the combo tour this past Feb and it was a great way to spend a few hours. Plus, our luggage went along with us in the motorcoach and then we were dropped at the airport after the tour. You might want to see if your cruise line offers one of these tours. Another option would be, after storing your luggage as you've indicated, to take a taxi to Las Olas and wander the shops and galleries for a few hours and have a nice lunch. We did that one year. Or, you could do a ride on the water taxi. That's fun and you get a nice tour and you can hop on/hop off as well. http://www.watertaxi.com/
royalcruz Posted August 21, 2009 #5 Share Posted August 21, 2009 When I go to the beach front for a walk my route is from the Bahia Mar to Sunrise Blvd., which is just over 1.5 miles one way. It is mostly hotels and restaurants, and a few beachy stores. So, unless you plan to sit on the beach most of the day, here is another idea... If you love to walk around, a great area to walk is downtown. Las Olas Blvd has boutiques, galleries, and restaurants/cafes. You can have breakfast there at Cheesecake Factory, The Floridian (24/7), or Le Bonne Crepe. The shops probably open at noon if it is Sunday. Keep walking west and you will arrive at Las Olas Riverfront Plaza, where you can shop, dine, or take a river cruise. Follow the Riverwalk west of there and you will find the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. Walk back east on 2nd St. and you will find the Discovery Center and Imax theatre, then more restaurants. If the weather isn't nice, The Galleria is the closest mall. It might not open until noon if it is sunday. There are nice restaurants (indoor/outdoor), a food court, and nice stores.
