Pam in CA Posted August 22, 2009 #2 Share Posted August 22, 2009 Can you exchange money on the Grand (US to Eruo)? Does the Grand use US dollars? Your onboard account will be in US$. Other than for tipping, you won't need any other money. There is a currency exchange machine but don't depend on that. It's a poor exchange rate plus a service fee. You are far better off exchanging money before leaving the US.

Pam, Thanks for your quick response. We're leaving in 4 days and didn't exchange money so guess we'll need to use the currency exchange machine for taxi money to Brugge. A suggestion is to change your money at the airport (in Europe) rather than onboard the ship. They have good rates.

That is an excellent idea and just what I think we'll do. Janet
Sunsailor Posted August 22, 2009 #6 Share Posted August 22, 2009 May I suggest that you use a debit card to get Euros from an ATM. It's the cheapest way to go. Just make sure your debit card has a four digit pin and is part of interlink or plus system. Also, don't forget to let your debit and credit card companies know that you will be out of the country and where you will be. Have a great cruise! BayCalif-Ariz R Us Posted August 22, 2009 #7 Share Posted August 22, 2009 We were able to change from USD to Euro's and British Pound Sterlings at our local Wells Fargo Bank, no sur charge for customers. When you get back they exchange it back. alan

gcsmith Posted August 22, 2009 #9 Share Posted August 22, 2009 One more vote for ATM's. You will get the best exchange rate there.

Sailing is from England. Unless the poster goes through an airport in a Euro country, would be unable to directly get Euros. If changing US currency for Euros at an airport in England, would first have to buy pounds (with a service fee), then sell the pounds (for at least 10% less) to get the Euros (with a service fee). However, poster could ask the taxi driver to stop at an ATM on the way to Brugge.

I agree that you would not need any other money on board other than for tips, but what about when on shore? We spent over 300 Euro during our 12 day cruise. Is that excessive?
