Help for things to do with limited walking

DH cannot walk extensively and uses a cane. We want to shop, enjoy scenic as opposed to historical. As far as shopping, walking is OK if there are plenty of places to sit and relax along the way. Even watching the boats in the harbor sounds wonderful! Are cab fares very expensive if we do it on our own? Our cruise on CB takes us to Boston, Bar harbor, and Newport - also Saint John and Halifax.

Thanks so much for your help! :o:)

For Boston you may want to consider the Old Town Trolley, which has a stop by the pier. You can ride all over Boston and get off if you see something you like. Faneuil Hall would be a good place to get off. There will be many place for DH to sit and people watch while you pop in and out of stores. If you don't want to ride the trolley, you could just take a cab to Faneuil Hall. Take a close look at the map http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=quincy+market+boston+map&um=1&ie=UTF-8&split=0&gl=us&ei=UluVSuaLKonvlAfS3YywDQ&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&ct=title&resnum=1

If you have the cab go on Clinton or Chatham St, there are walkways through the buildings to walk directly into the market place. Chatham St. is a bit better for this because IMO it opens into the better side of the market.

I can only tell you the results of my own investigation. We're going in October, and I have limited mobility.

In Bar Harbour, we're doing the ship's excursion to the Acadia National Forest. It is supposed to be very scenic. There is also a public bus that goes there if you are trying to keep it inexpensive. See this link for more info

St. John and Halifax are in Canada, so you might want to check out that forum as well.

For St. John see this link: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=923754 We're planning to walk around the Old City Market. There is an underground walkway that gets you there without having to climb the hills, so look for that reference.Supposedly you can see the fantastic change in tide levels right from the ship.

For Halifax see this link: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=48217&highlight=halifax We're planning to wander around near the ship. There is a walkway that has lots of shops and restaurants. If your DH can walk far enough, the Maritime Museum at the other end of the walkway is considered a must do.
