CruiseOrLoose Posted August 16, 2010 #1 Share Posted August 16, 2010 When you book a cabin with 2 singles (they say if pushed together they make a king...hmm) and an "upper", does the upper mean a bed that hangs on the wall above the singles or does it mean a single that hides in the wall and you let it down out night? If anyone knows, HELP!
Rowan555 Posted August 16, 2010 #2 Share Posted August 16, 2010 Yes, you can have it set up as one king bed, and the upper will stay in the wall/ceiling if it is not needed.
AZ Karaoke Girl Posted August 16, 2010 #3 Share Posted August 16, 2010 yep. 2 single beds push together to form one bed. In reality it isn't really a king size but is plenty big. Uppers drop down from the wall or ceiling and you climb a ladder to it. I personally prefer the sofa sleeper
JerseyshoreBruce Posted August 16, 2010 #4 Share Posted August 16, 2010 Just for your info the beds forming a king does not have a seam in the middle....they put something over it and you would never know it was 2 doubles!
*Mach* Posted August 16, 2010 #5 Share Posted August 16, 2010 Depends on the ship... some 'uppers' are still attached to the wall while on the newer ships they're in the ceiling... :)
vplsh Posted August 17, 2010 #6 Share Posted August 17, 2010 Mach, do you have a picture of the upper set up as a bed? What does it overhang?
tmt218 Posted August 17, 2010 #7 Share Posted August 17, 2010 I was wondering that to. I haven't see an upper berth that was in the ceiling. We have had a sofa bed or the one that pulled down from the wall.
AZ Karaoke Girl Posted August 17, 2010 #8 Share Posted August 17, 2010 I have a picture of a quad with the sofa bed and pulldown from ceiling. Not all rooms will be this configuration but this pic was taken on the Pride 4K.

CruiseOrLoose Posted August 19, 2010 Author #10 Share Posted August 19, 2010 If you don't feel comfortable being the person who will be on the wall bed, will they bring in a roll away for you if you don't have a sofa in your room? We're booked on the Elation in a deluxe oceanview stateroom if that helps any.

Please note that this rollaway takes up much of your floor space in the cabin. On the elation there is no sofa in an oceanview cabin- upper beds can be placed above the lower beds---if you keep those beds seperated. Upper beds are very comfortable- they hold up to 250 pounds. My kids who were over 6 feet tall were very comfortable up there. There is a little rail that prevents you fromfalling out

The ships that have them are the ones that allow 5 to a cabin. Folks who can only use the cabin if they have the rollaways will get first preference.
