SBT Posted May 19, 2016 #1 Share Posted May 19, 2016 My TA just told me that Cunard denied our request for on board credit based on our ownership of 100 shares of Carnival stock because the cruise price already included some on board credit. I was very surprised. This is our first Cunard cruise, but we have been sailing with Holland America for years and have never been denied. Has anyone else had this experience? seacruise9 Posted May 19, 2016 #2 Share Posted May 19, 2016 (edited) Hi, I have always been able to combine my shareholder credit with other shipboard credits on Cunard, Holland America and Princess (including a Princess cruise that I took last week). Kamloops50 Posted May 19, 2016 #3 Share Posted May 19, 2016 There are cruise fares that have OBC that aren't combinable with other forms OBC. That happened on one of my Princess cruise . Some group fares are combinable with other forms of OBC.
Salacia Posted May 19, 2016 #4 Share Posted May 19, 2016 No, I've never had my stockholder benefit denied despite having other OBC from Cunard and/or my travel agent. Check out the terms & conditions of stockholder OBC http://www.carnivalcorp.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=140690&p=irol-sharebenefit Although there are some conditions where the stockholder OBC may not be applied, I don't see anything on the Carnival Shareholder Benefit statement that precludes stockholder OBC if/when other on board credits have been given. Camgirl Posted May 19, 2016 #5 Share Posted May 19, 2016 I have never had a problem either. I would go direct to Cunard and leave out the travel agent. That is what I do even when using a TA. You can only get it added to your account after you have made the final payment. I hope you get it sorted out.
Rare RJChatsworth Posted May 19, 2016 #6 Share Posted May 19, 2016 I was given shareholders OBC last week even though some OBC came in the cruise price. I contacted Cunard directly. I can't imagine why someone would even attempt to obtain Cunard Shareholders benefit through a TA. I guess you didn't buy the shares through your TA! It is possible, I suppose, your TA is giving you OBC not authorised directly by Cunard on some deal the agent has with Cunard on the fare and so Cunard is denying anymore OBC through the shareholders benefit. Pennbank Posted May 19, 2016 #7 Share Posted May 19, 2016 (edited) see http://www.carnivalcorp.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=140690&p=irol-sharebenefit No mention of only 1 lot of obc allowed, like RCI I have had obc whilst booking then shareholder department add my further shareholders obc once final payment has been made Please let us know what caused your problem. Cancun01 Posted May 20, 2016 #8 Share Posted May 20, 2016 (edited) We have never had our shareholders credit denied regardless of any other promotion. I agree with other posters that you may wish to consider resubmitting the request directly to Cunard. I am of the view that my shares are none of my TA's business. Hopefully you get it sorted! Regardless, enjoy your cruise! Edited May 20, 2016 by Cancun01
SBT Posted May 20, 2016 Author #9 Share Posted May 20, 2016 Thanks for all your help. I contacted Cunard directly and sent them all the information. They still turned me down claiming I had some other promotion that didn't allow me more OBC. The only thing I can think of is that they gave me some credit for being a teacher. I'm a bit disappointed, but I certainly won't let it interfere with having a great cruise. Janet
Salacia Posted May 20, 2016 #10 Share Posted May 20, 2016 Just a suggestion: go ahead and submit directly your stockholder information, etc, in the usual manner outlined http://www.carnivalcorp.com/phoenix....l-sharebenefit (I've always filed directly, never through my travel agent.) Janet It may be that you have been given a Friends/Family ticket by your TA in which case the shareholder obc is not allowed. However when using Military / Services the discount is allowed. tv24 Posted May 21, 2016 #13 Share Posted May 21, 2016 We have never been denied our shareholders OBC benefit on Cunard, even though we always happily receive other OBC for other reasons. However once we did have to raise holy hell with Cunard to get the credit; it took a very long time and a lot of work. Other times it went through smoothly through the stupid process of faxing in proof of stock ownership after making final payment. I hope you get this worked out. Salacia Posted May 23, 2016 #23 Share Posted May 23, 2016 (edited) It seems to me that two different questions were raised on thread. The first being the OP's question about stockholder's on board credit (OBC) being refused on the grounds that other OBC's were given. That question has been addressed in several responses. The second question regards the OP's statement that, while denied a stockholder credit, OBC for being a teacher was given. The question regarding terms of OBC awarded to teachers remains unanswered. I've not previously heard or read anything regarding teachers being awarded OBC on Cunard ships. I can imagine many teachers (or as my friends preferred to be called - educators) are interested in the details. Cheers, -S.
