Nieuw Statendam moored at the terminal in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The terminal building was spotlessly clean and bright. Security was within the terminal building and there was a shop selling alcohol after the security check. There was no further check when boarding the ship. I will do the 'housekeeping' of menus etc later, but we had a great day touring part of Tenerife arranged by @sailingdutchy Tony . We had a great day, a fine lunch and wonderful conversation. The guide whom Tony picked was absolutely top class. We visited Icod de los vinos and Garachico along the north coast. Our guide selected various plates for our lunch which we all shared, including bean soup, grilled cheese with sauces, berenjenas con miel ( deep fried sliced egg plant drizzled in local palm honey), and goat stew with canarias potatoes. The onboard entertainment tonight was a Flamenco group, who gave an above average, though unatmospheric, performance. Flamenco is not local to las Canarias but the tourists expect it! We have a late sailaway tonight at 11pm for the short trip to Gran Canaria.

Just a heads up to those who use small wheeled scooters/walkers.......Funchal's pavement/sidewalks are not smooth pavement.

Are you docking in Cobh? There will be taxis at the Cobh terminal.No need to go to Cork. Cobh to Midleton is possible by train, but takes a little planning. One change each way.

I , also, am not sure. But, as a point of reference, friends recently completed a TA from Florida to Rotterdam and the first port of call in Europe (not Schengen area) was Ireland and they had to do face to face immigration control brfore being permitted to disembark.

Laundry: we left out our first bag of laundry at 7pm on Wednesday evening. It was returned at 10.45 am on Thursday morning. Shout out to laundry team via Let Us Know! Amazing!

Day 5, Thursday 25th April Good Afrenoon from Funchal, Madeira, Portugal. It has been a very pleasant day in Funchal. It is a national public holiday so many stores and facilities are closed. The holiday remembers 25th April 1974 when the fascist dictatorship was overthrown in what has become known as 'The Carnation Revolution'. Today, lots of kudos to HAL who provided a free (yes, FREE) shuttle into and from the city centre, which is also where a lot of the celebrations were startng to happen. Norwegian Star pax had to walk or take taxis and they are docked further from the port exit than we are. Also docked is Windstar Star Pride and National Geographic Endurance is at anchor in the bay. Here is where we are docked in relation to the centre. we are just across from the CR7 hotel and museum. That is Cristiano Ronaldo, famous footballer ooops! sorry!,soccer player, who was born in Funchal and played for Real Madrd and Manchester United among others.
