  1. We travel yearly on the Summit to Bermuda and stay in a Royal Suite. I make a list of what is expected and what we will be doing and review with our butler when we meet him. At that time I have already made an inspection of the condition of the quarters and am prepared with a list of all things required to clean, repair or move to assure our stay to be perfect. For example we ask for fruit salad to be in the room daily, breakfast daily, tours of the ship (if possible) what beverages to be in the fridge (cooler) etc. Dinner reservations in any restaurant, you name it. Last inspection the whirlpool seriously needed cleaning. Everything was done immediately. The butler is the boss, so all goes thru them and I find if I adhere to the chain of command, I never ever have a problem.

Only once in all our trips did we have the same Butler, and he remembered us and asked if we still wanted all the same as the previous year. So I really don't think by you being prepared with your to do list, is insulting.

Don't worry, your stay will be great. Just communicate and never go directly to to understaff for your wishes, call your Butler!

    Have a great cruise!

  2. We mostly visit Bermuda May and June. May is definately the month that NCL, Celebrity, RCCL, Holland American (I know I am missing some others) dock in Bermuda. Ships dock in St. Georges, Hamilton and Kings Wharf, Monday thru Sunday. Cruising in or flying intoBermuda the Island is always busy but definately manageable. The dates I would avoid are Bermudas National Holidays when services are minimalized. That is when things get really bogged down. We have never been unable to stay busy. Bermuda is just a perfect place to visit..

  3. RE: Celebrity Summit cabin 6008. We have booked this cabin for our children. Has anyone been in this cabin recently and are there any pictures out there. Have searched reviews but can't seem to find any. Help would be appreciated

    Thank you,

    Gary

  4. We've cruised on Summit for many years in a Royal Suite and have always opted to dine every evening in Normandie....the food and service was superb and they would make anything that we desired! Ahh....... Now, we have Tuscan Grill...should we just dine in Luminae or Tuscan Grill...input please...:)

We (3 of us) ate in Tuscan June 4th trip to Bermuda. Service was great, I had the extra cost steak was really bad. Next day I had the filet mignon, was Delicious. DH and DM Thought service was superb and the fish dinner delicious. Would definitely give it a try. But miss Normandie

  5. No, only gelato when served as part of a meal. From the gelateria, you will have to pay [except for the Elite coupon for one scoop you will probably be given as a perk for being in a RS].

Sorry to dispute, was on Summit sailing first week of June 2016 in the Royal Suite and 2 scoops of gelato were complimentary for all in our cabin and not just once a day. Great unadvertised perk, and yes put on ten lbs . Still trying to take it off. The elite coupon as I remember was for one free scoop period.

  6. We will be in RS on the Summit (if that makes a difference), and it appears to be very confusing if specialty restaurants are included with this cabin category. X should be universal w/"yes" all lunch and dinner at any specialty restaurant is included - what is the difficulty......geez

Was on Summit first week of June 2016. Only time we paid extra was in Tuscan and that was for the dried steak. On the menu it was listed as extra but I would like to recommend the filet mignon. In our opinion, it was delicious. Mostly everything on the ship is complementary including Gellato. Would advise to watch your Premium beverage package as some drinks are not fully covered under the plan.. Hope this helps have a great trip

  7. Something strange happened. I was reading recent reviews of the Summit and came across mine. When I initially wrote my review, it was lengthy so when I noticed it in two parts I thought nothing of it. The original review was split, but where it was split, made understanding it difficult, omitting one descriptive line that made the review make sense (censorship?). The second part of the review expressed our distain of the remodeling of the Royal Suite. It went from having plush chair with hassock, plush love seat and sofa and end tables with center table. To having 2 swivel plastic chairs and one plastic sofa bed couch with center table. This left the living room section of the suite without any where to rest your legs and being handicapped, I was also unable to maneuver the swivel chairs, leaving the only usable chair at the desk. The review also mentioned the previously comfortable deck furniture replaced by the cheapest deck furniture I have encountered. The replacement chairs are now flimsy and light, I could not get onto them. Very unsafe.! The lounge chairs were totally unusable in as much as, the front section of the chair did not fold down allowing easy sitting, forcing you to sit on the side causing the chair to flip out from under me. Not a pleasant experience! While on the subject , 2 chairs in the dining are were replaced by a wall couch requiring a short 5'1" person to use cushions while eating. Ridiculous. We had the same cabin last year and it was wonderful, comfortable and splendidly luxurious.. I informed Celebrity of my handicap and was assured the upgrade would be a major improvement. Spent $9,000.00. Disappointed $9,000.00 worth. Just wanted all to know this was the second part of my review. I can also add, have not heard a word from Celebrity. Cruise was first week of June 2016.

  8. I and my whole family HAD been a 'X' customers since the beginning in 1989. When we were kids, my family started taking 'X' every summer to Bermuda. In recent years I have had nothing but problems and disappointments wit 'X' (not just their website either). That's why I said "HAD" been customers. We now sail HAL and MSC. We find their customer service and appreciation to be much better.

On the April 2015 Summit repot cruise I took with my wife, I noticed so much wrong that I will never return to 'X', and 'X' made it clear after I wrote them about my issues that they do not care about my business, passenger safety or anything but their customers money and the bottom line.

This was a late honeymoon/ anniversary and my wives first cruise (we had been married for 2 years but didn't get to take a honeymoon because of work issues). I decided to book a regular balcony on deck 6 instead of my normal Aqua cabin on decks 9 and 11. I did this because as mentioned, it was my wives first cruise and after reading several post on here, other travel sites and talking to my TA, I felt it best to be lower and closer to things for her.

The ship still had broken and cracked windows in the solarium (that I spotted and mentioned to them in a letter 2 years prior and I am willing to bet they are still there). The MDR was now even smaller since the suite class restaurant was almost done being built.

They were squeezing 75% of passengers into an MDR that was now 1/4 it's original size. We were squeezed in a corner looking at a wall. The food in the MDR was low quality diner food (and 'X' said in their reply "...if you want quality food, you need to book a suite or Aqua cabin. Inside, ocean view and balcony are not considered luxury cabins anymore. That is why we have created Blu for Aqua guest and (I forgot the name) for suite guest, so we can offer them the service and quality those guest pay for."

Again, I have been on 'X' since I was 12 and since the line began. Besides issues with the cabin, the MDR, the excursion desk, and an (issue with the photo package I purchased and then them losing half my photos on the last night and refusing to refund me for it), none of these were safety issues.

What was a safety issue was that the cruise line was warned of a severe storm before leaving Bermuda for Bayonne. The cruise line ignored the warning and for half the next day, the ship was getting hit by high winds and waves and heavy winds. It tore canopies off up on deck and made it almost impossible to do anything that day.

My wife was sick (exactly what I was trying to avoid by choosing a lower mid ship cabin), and we had to keep picking up items off the floor of our cabin. A $300 glass picture frame my wife purchased in Bermuda was destroyed when it fell out off the shelf in the closet and got crushed by our suite case.

I'm sure this storm probably wasn't as bad as the one Anthem OTS hit a few months ago (that finally forced 'X' and RRC to change their storm policy), but it was really bad.

Their answer about the storm??? "... It cost a lot of money when you delay a ship in port or deviate from course to avoid storms. We try to stick closely to schedules. We take the safety of our ship seriously as well as the safety of passengers and crew. Sometimes risk have to be taken to keep our schedule. We do apologize for the fact that you and your wife weren't comfortable during the storm you mentioned, but there was nothing the captain could have done to avoid the storm and to delay the scheduled departure or steer the ship in another direction was never an option."

We had friends on the Breakaway that same week. They were in port next to us and scheduled to head back to NY Harbor at the same time. The Breakaway listened to the coast guard warnings and waited, and then went a little off course to avoid the storm, and it managed to beat the Summit back to NY Harbor, avoid the storm and avoid damage to its ship (and its passengers didn't get sick and had a fun day at sea).

I had a few other issues in the past with 'X' and pretty much got blown off in the same way. I have been complaining about issues with their site since 2000 and obviously nothing has ever changed there either.

To put it in a nutshell, 'X' is looking to get back to the old way of cruising with class systems. If you aren't 1st class (highest priced suites), 2nd class (slightly lower cost suites and Aqua), you will be left with nothing but stale food and lacking accommodations. Some people like ocean view and inside cabins or basic balcony cabins, but if you chose these on 'X' then don't expect anything resembling luxury or even quality. You are the "Stowage" (old term from steam ship days) guest to them and barely worth anything. Regardless of how long you have been a loyal customer or how many cruises you have taken. Loyalty means nothing to 'X' and neither does customer appreciation. These two terms are lost on this cruise line now. Not like the old days when they went out of their way to thank you for your LOYALTIES and show you their APPRECIATION .

I would suggest you make this your last cruise with 'X' and move on, or just realize you are never going to be treated the way you should with this line.

We were on Summit first week of June 2016 in a Royal Suite. I agree with you 100% and am still quite upset of X,s changes..quite upset. But to add to your statement they don't care what cabin you are in tough luck for the all might buck. If I don't get any correspondence for all the trouble (complained about in the so important review survey I am canceling my next on board booking with them. I sure as heck can find other cruises that will gladly take my $9000 and give us the space, decor and outside deck furniture that reflects price paid.

  9. I am in an RS sailing this w/end but not heard from the concierge as I was told I would... I understand they contact you a few weeks prior to sailing for requests, options for bar set up etc. Maybe I don't have all the info? Anyone on here that can advise.

    Thanks so much

I called the Captains club and was put in contact with the shore side concierge for my ship with no problem, give them a call and have a great cruise

  10. The Specialty dining perk was eliminated for all reservations made after the first of the year.
Is that for the Royal Suites also. I am still seeing unlimited specialty dining even in Bistro on five? I am getting frustrated trying to figure out old for new perks for the Royal suites. So many different postings even on other travel sites. We leave 6/5/16 on Summit and my mother keeps asking my wife "So what is there for us in the suite" So wife gave project to me to find out

  12. If we skip the concierge issue for the moment, the only thing that has changed in your list of concerns is the balcony furniture. Describing the new furniture as "vinyl" is not correct unless "vinyl" in the US is different to the UK. The new furniture is made of a modern material that is similar to what we have in the garden and much more suitable. Rain/dew clears from this furniture quickly and is so much more practical for a cruise ship - and UK weather. My husband and I have spent far too much time on cruise ships trying to rescue the old cushions from the rain or drying them when we did not succeed. [And on an M-class PH balcony that is a real pain.] The old furniture is just not as comfortable as the new [even when you are not getting a wet backside!]. The one report back on Cruise Critic since the furniture change has supported my view. We just wish that they would make the same change on the S-class ships.

As for the shore-side concierge, they do indeed now handle the pre-cruise requests rather than the Michael's Club concierge so that those on board can concentrate on those on board! If you are sailing in June, it is too early to heard from them. You can normally expect to hear between 4 and 10 day pre-cruise. Unless you have an issue that needs dealing with early [such as a booking/accounts issue], they will obviously be focusing on those cruising in a few days.

    Sue,

Thank you for your information regarding the deck furniture. Sounds great, the old wicker was getting a bit bothersome because of its wear. I am sorry I was not clear in my description, but was referring to the living area furniture. Since drydock I have been told the living room furniture no longer contains the love seat nor the high back chair with foot hassock. My mother 93, although very agile she has to raise her legs and stretch out. My understanding is the furniture was replaced by 2 white vinyl no arm chairs which will not serve her well at all. Will hate to bring in a lounge chair from the deck and prop her up, sort of speak. Thanks for your response. Do you know where I can find the e-mail address for the shore concierge? Thank you in advance

  13. We are on the June 5th sailing and we were contacted last week by the shoreside concierge. In the past, I agree, it's been more like a week prior to sailing, but for some reason, we were contacted this time a month prior to sailing.

This is the same sailing we will be on. Do you happen to have the direct e-mail address. Thank you

  14. I am looking for an up-to date list of amenities for the Royal Suite on the Summit going to Bermuda this June. The brochures are different than the Celebrity site, the Captains club site and everywhere I read. I have spoken to the Captains club They say so much has changed. Do they still have the egg crate mattresses for the L/R couch for that matter is there a couch or love seat and will I need to get a roll away. My mother is coming with us and we have to give her the bedroom and she requires cotton sheets because of allergies. Is there still breakfast in the cabin each morning?. These things are on some brochures and not on others. I contacted the Michaels club concierge by e-mail and was reassigned to concierge@celebrity.com and have not been answered. We were on Summit last year same time and cabin but it is my understanding that the big high back chair with ottoman has been removed along with a couch and replaced with 2 "chic" vinyl chairs. Your help would be appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Gary

  15. DH and I are booked on the Summit repo cruise out of NJ on 10/16. I want to upgrade us from Sky Suite to a Royal Suite. The only two available are 6134 or 6140. Which one should I pick? I am thinking 6140- quieter. I appreciate any feedback.

We have been in 6134 and it was nice but you did have a bit of hall noise at different times, 6140 starboard side with no side doors was great and also quiet. I stay away from the RS that boarder the Concierge cabins, they tend to be noisier and they are closer to the butler pantry. Favorite are 6140 Starboard and 6139 port side. We do like to be closest to the dockyard when in port but last two trips we were in 6139 and when facing the bay you have a lot of jet ski noise. But the Summit switches out the position a lot so you might want to keep an eye out on the web cam and see if you can set out the pattern. Have a great cruise. If you have seen any recent (post dry dock) of the RS please let me know. Thanks

  16. Thanks. Question about Michael's club. I do not drink alcoholic beverages and neither does my nephew who is accompanying me(he is 16 btw). Does Michale's serve alcohol all the time?? What about soda and water beverages for him and me??? I can't find this answer anywhere.

Healingbuddy, When you are standing in front of the bar in Michael's on Summit, off to the left is a cooler which is for the patrons. Generally it is loaded with beer, soda and water and sometimes:D snacks. Help your selves. Everyone does.

  17. Midnight buffet

    Ice sculptures

    Red roses on embarkation

My understanding no more "Captains Table"

Escort by butler to your suite

Dinner by the senses in Normandy or sister restaurants

A nice leisurely top deck to sit quietly with a nice after dinner sherry

    Craft beers

    Am I showing my age?
