  1. Lucky in PA:

Just so you know, it has never taken more than 3 days for a deposit refund to show up on my Amex account. Sometimes I have 2 cruises booked for different weeks at once when there is a great special or the cabin we desire is limited stock. I hold them both until I see which weeks we can get off from work. The deposit comes back to me pronto. This time I Had two different ships booked for the same week - Getaway and Breakaway. Got my deposit credited to Amex the day after I cancelled Breakaway.

  2. while i dont know if id do it, i dont know how they prevent a rebook. you cancel and the only thing i can see where they may screw you is you have to wait for that deposit 6 weeks or something. then you gotta up front do another deposit.

also is the room released 'immediately' into the pool . i guess would have to reload the page every hour to ensure i get the same room which is important to me

i watch my room price every day and it hasnt changed in a month and there are plenty left. the haven spa i guess doesnt change prices. id still get all 4 freebees but id get the 300 obc if i tried to rebook. it is tempting. losing one free meal is the only thing i can think of that id lose, is that correct? (booked in FEB)

    Lucky-

Didn't you change your cruise recently because of Jersey Week?

Anyway, I called NCL and they simply applied the OBC to my suite booking. They did not release my cabin , I did not rebook. Not sailing until September. Before I had hung up the phone I had my new amenity confirmation which added the 300 dollar OBC.

The rep, will check that price has not changed for your suite .if it hasn't gone up you will be golden! All you lose is one of the 4 dinners.

It can't hurt to make the call.

  3. At daughter's insistence we tried the MDR 3 times on our last cruise . We were Haven guests . We had absolutely phenomenal meals, the lamb better than in Le Bistro. My sons enjoy Moderno , so we find that would be worth the $$- we've had the UDP the past couple of cruises.

Without the UDP it doesn't seem worth the money for the five of us to go to Cagney's , La Cucina or Teppanyaki as we have comparable venues near our home. We do not have a Brazilian steakhouse so that is a nice treat.

The one speciality totally worth the up charge on Getaway is the take out counter at Ocean Blue. Love those lobster rolls!

  4. My boys wear long pants to dinner at Le Bistro and Tropicana. no tie, but they like cotton Hawaiin style shirts. At the other venues they may have worn nice shorts but always with a polo or button down shirt. We did not go to Cagney's the past two trips. The boys were 14 and 16 on our last June's cruise.

They also wear topsiders instead of sneakers.

After dinner they run back to the cabin, hang up their pants and throw on shorts and flops or sneakers.

Husband always wears khakis to dinner with a polo or other shirt with buttons.

We did not got to any meals at dinner time with the kids in casual t shirts.

Freestyle really reduces your packing! I take cute skirts that can be dressed up or down with tops and shoes. I am the easiest packer in our family!

Daughter -16 also- has been in charge of her own packing as she takes about 10 pairs of sandals and dresses with her.

  5. We have about 10 cruises on Carnival (all suites) and decided to give NCL a try. We're booked in a mini-suite for a Panama Canal 11 days in November. While looking things over the price for our booked (on the Pearl) mini suite came out to $4,700 total for the two of us. The cheapest thing in the Haven was around $14,000. I just can't imagine it being worth that kind of difference. There are some nice NCL suite perks and NCL does have nicer suites than Carnival but they're not worth that kind of extra money and the Carnival suites are perfectly acceptable to us.

Actually, after reading all the info posted on CC I'm seriously considering cancelling the NCL cruise and just going back to Carnival. I'll probably wait a few weeks before making the final decision.

A suite on CCL is nothing at all like a suite on NCL.

  6. Hi i have a owner suite booked next year on the sky to celebrate my 50th with girlfriends. i am splurdging! :) so when the butler brings you snacks like the m &m etc. are you charged for them and also the drinks in the fridge are you charged for them if you drink them and restock? should i ask them to remove these items? this will be a 1st for us too.

    Which ship are you on?

  7. How do you tell how much OBC you get for different categories? It sounds like someone got $300 for their suite category. We have a future balcony and another future oceanview booked. Not sure if it's worthwhile but would help to know how much.

Just call or do a mock booking- I pulled up the dates for my cruise, clicked on my category and then on the little green bar for OBC.

  8. I just had a very nice experience with the Extra OBC.

Got it added to the other 4 Free at Sea offers on our sold-out aft.

Very happy. 150pp, 300 for the Hubble and me.

All it took was one call.

I was going to swear off Cruise Critic until summer so that I get more done at night, but happened upon another post thread referencing this.

    Have a great day

  9. Care to elaborate??!

    Yes.

When you go to NCL.com and se the Free at Sea promo on the home page it does not show this added OBC deal. You have pick your ship ,go to "dates and pricing" and you will see it as a new little bar in the lower cocrner of the date and category that you choose. It is dark green and called $ extra OBC. It is combinable with "free at sea".

You would never know about this promo unless you look at the Dates and Pricing.

I apologize for my typing, I just had a minor hand surgery and am feeling all thumbs!

  10. NCL no longer has a contract with Carlo's, per the officers on Jade at the meet and greet on the 3/12-3/19 cruise. The cakes/cupcakes/etc were baked in (what is it, NJ?), then frozen and shipped to the ships. According to them, most of the time, the cakes/etc were either moldy or otherwise yucky and caused a lot of complaints. Therefore, they did not renew the contract with him.

Now the cakes are baked on board.

Perhaps you can order it on board? The birthday package is nice also- not Carlos, but they will decorate your cabin with streamers and balloons and have a cake. It's 35 dollars I believe and it is available at NCL.com.

  11. We don't internet much on board usually - use phone for checking on parents, etc.

I know that the cell service is not the same in port as at sea. Is the Internet while in port but staying on ship as crappy as when at sea? I remember one year in ST Maarten a memo in the Dalies about no internet service due to the mountains .

Will be leaving kids behind so may want to use the Internet for school communication or whatever. If it is really awful we could always find a cafe or some such in port ( 4 port days ). Any suggestions? Text has always worked well for us, but there may be emails necessary now and again. We have the free (ahem) 250 min.

    Thanks

  12. I don't think the OP is showing any ignorance about why someone has the animal. They are merely questioning whether everyone who brings an animal onboard with them has a true need to have the animal with them.

There are several websites where one can purchase vest and documentation for about 65 dollars. As someone who works with children and amazing therapy dogs for epilepsy, POTTS ,diabetes...the abuse of the system chafes my hide.

My daughter had an awful allergic reaction to some lady who had her therapy CATS on an airplane, on her lap , stroking them. My kiddo is allergic and was having asthma attacks . I almost took the damned cats and flushed them.

I had a flight to Phoenix next to a lovely gal with her therapy Guinea pigs. Sh e fed them barbecue potatoe chips the whole flight. I flew from DC. They smelled like , well, Guinea pigs- adorable, but I doubt that they sense a change in blood pressure and safely guide that gal to the floor before she passes out like the dogs that I know.

Emotional support pets may be necessary for a very small percentage of the population . But when I see families that truly need the trained medical dogs go through hours of training for these dogs that have been trained to do things that we as humans cannot , struggling to afford a dog or applying for a grant to get one, and then I sit next to chip-chewing rodents on a 4 hour flight because their owner can't fly without them...when my daughter can't breathe because a selfish woman has to stroke her kitties instead of leaving them In the carrier where dander and saliva-covered hair is NOT flying thru the cabin...I become annoyed.

    .

I am a strong advocate for the otherly abled and those with true psych issues. We have a dear friend with PTSD who has a dog who, helps him greatly. But as many pointed out there are guidelines for the behavior of an emotional support dog..His

dog is trained , doesn't growl, doesn't interact unless instructs, doesn't run around the pool deck as I have seen a little Pomeranian ES dog do...and knows when our friend is having difficulty. It is truly amazing.

But this country has gone nuts with the PC crap.

Thank you, OP for bringing this topic to CC

  13. Hello:

I have been reading some reviews of Getaway. We have been 3 times on this ship and always booked the comedy show online or with the pre-concierge. Our June 2015 cruise was during the glitchiest of NCL.com times and we simply sent our requested times and dates to the pre concierge who confirmed them.

Just read that the you must reserve Headliners comedy once on board. Is this the case?

Been reading some nasty reviews. I have noticed that the most nasty contain false info, like saying that all the shows, many shows are an added cost when only the Illusionarium is. Oy vey!

Thanks in advance for your help

    Nora

  14. Anyone know what is the price they are charging. I know it's a market price.

They have been ten bucks since we've been sailing Getaway- last fall they were the same. We also got a 20% discount for having the UDP.

The rolls are stuffed with very good lobster, a light sauce mixed in with the meat.

    Delish!

Note: I grew up in New England on Maine lobster and have in laws who are professional lobsterman .These rolls are the real deal.
