  1. Hi all,

I didn’t want to make a new thread as this one isn’t too old. I’ll be on a TA in November and looking at a flight form Orlando that leaves at 1123 domestic flight . Not sure being in the Haven makes a difference if doing self disembark, my flight will be in first class. I want to know if I get off the ship as early as possible (my itinerary says it docks at 8am. Does anyone know if that’s really the case or does it get in earlier?)

Does Orlando have a separate screening for business class passengers? I’ve read it can be busy but hoping a Saturday morning maybe quieter?

Any thoughts would be gratefully received. Thanks

I did self walk off this past November on the TA. We began lining up around 6:00 and I think they started letting people off around 7:30. I will say it was a mad house. They do escort Haven guests off that early as well as I remember them coming off the elevator as we were walking out to the deck. They do usually try to do immigration at the USVI port but we were unable to do it last year due to all the hurricane damage and St. Thomas port being eliminated. This helps eliminate some of the back up at the port but there are no guarantees. I took the shuttle to the airport and got there I think around 9:30? Security was pretty quick put I had TSA precheck do it goes quick.

  2. I was on a TA in November on the Epic and I never noticed the smoke smell wafting into any of the restaurants. I did notice it as I walked through the casino some nights but not every night. I can’t speak about ash and cigarette butts landing on balconies but people aren’t supposed to toss cigarettes overboard there are lots of receptacles in the smoking area on deck.

  3. Hello all!

I am very excited as I have just booked my first transatlantic cruise! so far we have a group of 6 going (all in our 30s) but surely there will be more!

Now i know its a long way away as its the 16 day on the NCL epic departing November 22 2019. However I have a few questions that maybe some of you can help me out with!

    1) Weather? what can we expect? I picked this one for us as we seem to stay quite south for the crossing so hopefully some sun!

    2) how rough is a transatlantic.. we cruised to the Bahamas out of NYC last winter and I assume it would be comparable ?

    3) Thoughts on the Epic? does it have a dry dock coming up? We thoroughly enjoyed the breakaway.

    4) flights and Barcelona? any advice on how long to spend in Barcelona as I have never been to Spain. lots to see in the port area? thinking of booking flights through the cruise line as one way airfares can be hard to find from Canada.

    5) types of people on board? are transatlantic's generally less busy? less children? older clientele not that it matters just curious as there will be a couple singles within the group who will be interested in mingling.

Thanks for any advice that may come my way ! I know its a long way out but its never to early to start planning and most importantly saving!

I’m booked on this TA as well time will tell whether or not it will work out time wise for me or not.

I just did my first TA this past November on the Epic and it was fantastic.

    1) Weather was pretty good, the ports in Spain had great weather and then we stopped in the Azores and it was a little cooler and we had a touch or rain but still s nice port.

2)The sea days were great very smooth only one rainy day.

3)Epic was nice I enjoyed it more than I thought. I didn’t miss the waterfront like Getaway as much as I thought I might. Spent a lot of time up in Spice H2O which was a great outdoor spot.

    4) look into Norwegian Air they have great one way air fare deals

    5) age range was all over the board though it does tend more to an older crowd but not exclusively. But very low on the kid factor and since this is even longer I would think even less kids but it is over the US Thanksgiving holiday so it’s hard to say.

Also there is already a meet and mingle forum set up so join in there too. Also a FB group too 🤫

  4. I stayed at Hotel Lloret it’s right on Las Ramblas if you book through their website it does include breakfast. It’s within walking distance of the Aerobús stop at Plaça Cataluyna. They were doing some facade work on the building so there was scaffolding on the building that did block the view from my room but I was only there the one night so it didn’t affect my stay. And it didn’t appear that they did and construction on the weekends.

  5. As far as age goes solos run the gamut from 30’s to 60’s or even older do have no fear that you will be the oldest in the group. And I think when in the solo lounge people are there to mingle and have fun.

Also unless you are a scary looking guy I don’t think you have to worry about women leaving the solo lounge because you’ve come in for coffee. Don’t sweat it. You’ll have a great time no matter the age of the people you meet.

  6. I love to cruise, but it's been several years since I have cruised solo. What are your favorite things to do onboard as a solo cruiser that doesn't feel /look awkward? I am bringing a couple of books to read poolside. I am not comfortable dining alone, so probably will not eat in the dining room. What else?:)

I like to roam the ship check out all different bars and shops. I’ll hang out in the adults only areas of the pool decks and read and enjoy the sun. If doing NCL I’ll go to the solo meet ups in the evening and will do dinner with the solo group. But if there isn’t a specified solo dinner group I’ll dine I. The MDR alone too many problems with shared tables otherwise

  7. In my opinion go with NCL for Bermuda they give you the longest time in port. And the Breakaway has the solo cabins which are awesome. I love the Anthem out of Cape Liberty they also have solo cabins but unfortunately RCCL doesn’t do a 7 night Bermuda cruise unless it includes a port day in Boston as well. Which for me is pointless as I am 30 minutes from Boston.

  8. I'm still confused on this app. I understand how it works for texting and the additional cost but have read a couple older threads and wonder if this is would apply to the Epic.

    1. If you sign up first day I read you can get the $9.95 charge at half price.

    2. I read you can use the app to make phone calls to home for $ .79 a minute not sure if you can receive them from home and is this even true?

    3. I read this app is being discontinued and replaced by another app with more features but the new app is currently only on a different Norwegian ship. I presume this app will still work once aboard the Epic?

    4. I read it doesn't work that great for texting regardless but do you have to sign up for the texting if you want to use the call home feature?

    5. I have an android phone and and iPhone - any idea which would work best - I read you won't be notified of incoming texts

    6. My last question is - if you use the phone in your room to send or receive call what is the current cost per minute?

    7. Whoops last question - if there is an emergency at home there is an emergency number but the rate is like $12 a minute or something - so would it be best to have home call your room - and if so exactly how do you know what number they should call on the Epic.

Thanks so much for any input and your patience is reading this! DDLB

I can answer a few of these

    1. I signed up first day and it was 9.95 and this was just this past November.

    2. Someone in my group used this feature she said it was .20 a minute

    3. I have heard this as well not sure what the timing of the roll out is

    4. Texting is ok but it can be spotty but yes you need it to call home for that cheaper rate

    5. I have iPhone and my friend had android and we both experienced spotty service

    6. And 7. I don’t know but I thought I read costs to call home are 4.99 a minute and I think you can find the emergency numbers on Norwegian’s website

  9. So strange I have Ugg slippers that can be worn outside but I only go as far as my mailbox. But the boots I get they are comfortable and slouchy and very casual but I can’t imagine anyone being offended by seeing them in an airport lounge.

  10. At 5:30, I headed down to the helipad for the Suite Sail-away Party. Much like the bridge tour, I don’t think I will ever get sick of attending this. It really is a treat to be on the helipad of the Oasis Class.

I might have been the first one out there! [emoji6]

Unlike September, the weather was exceptional for sail-away.

The event was kicked off by a speech from Dru and an introduction of some of the officers and operations crew.

Of course, Raj and Mohammad were also present to ensure we were all enjoying ourselves.

Raj will be moving to the Symphony in February for those of you that may be sailing on her for the European Season.

    Love these shots of Labadee
