  1. It was up, as of my posting.

yep - back up now! I was watching the Summit dock this morning. There was big clap of thunder and the camera went out shortly after that.

  2. The Whalers do not have a ladder to get in and out of the water. They are very small and don't ride out of the water very far. I would think your group would be much more comfortable on the pontoon boat. I wish I could figure out how to attach a picture to this post but I have not figured that out yet. I have some pictures of the Whaler showing how close to the water line the edge of the boat is but can't get them to attach to this post.

I think we would be more comfortable on a pontoon too but then I look at the prices and I like the whaler better! Decisions...decisions! I know we are definitely going to rent a boat though (so that is one decision done...lol)

  3. We are thinking of renting a boat while we are in Bermuda too. It will be my husband, myself and our 3 kids (12, 8, 5). Does the whalers have a ladder to get in and out of the water or just the pontoons? We will be fishing, snorkeling and exploring. I was thinking of renting for 6 hours but now I'm afraid that wouldn't be long enough. This sounds awesome!

  4. We just got back home Saturday. This won't be a review but just some thoughts and observations. I'm taking a break from my Passover cooking.

This was our third time on the Summit. We like Celebrity, the smaller ship and mostly the southern itinerary.

The food was good. I did notice that it was a little better on our past Summit sailings but still the better food we've had at sea. I think all lines are cutting back in this area.

The ship is in great shape I thought for her age. They're really keeping it up well. The only complaint would be the bathroom. A few tiles were cracked, some rust and the tile grout was dirty. A little rust on the balcony. This all really didn't detract from our cruise experience at all.

The service was fine. Didn't have any complaints at all.

Our cabin was in great shape. Except for the bath noted above. We had a Family Verandah. We switched from an aft C1 when they opened up the FV's. Loved the extra cabin size especially since we were with our 10 yr old. The balcony was huge and lovely. Table with six chairs and two reclining chairs and footstools. The only thing was I couldn't see the wake from the steel bathtub jutting out but the open railing on the side made up for it.

The only thing that really stood out to us about this sailing is that the passengers weren't your traditional X passenger. I noticed alot of newbies that tried X because of the Beverage Package. There were also a lot of smokers. I can't complain because they have a right in the smoking areas. It seemed that these areas were always smoky. Never noticed that in the past at all. On past sailings, I forgot where the smoking areas were because there were hardly any smokers.

The entertainment was a little lacking this time around. Nothing really impressed me. We're not major night life people so I don't make this the priority of a cruise.

Beverage package we did not get so I can't comment. We booked over a year in advance so we didn't pay enough. The price never came low enough after we booked where we could justify paying extra for the package. Our total bill was $260 and that included a dinner in Qsine and smoothies for our son so you can see we are not big drinkers.

Qsine was great. Some dishes were a hit and some were a miss but it's that experience that will make us do it again on our next cruise.

Fun Factory. My son loved Ensigns. All his fun factory experiences have been very positive. Surprisingly, he did not like the kids club on our Royal Caribbean sailing.

Overall it was a great cruise. We booked another Summit cruise because they changed the itineraries FINALLY and added Martinique and Tortola to some sailings. Yay.

If I forgot anything or if anyone wants to know about excursions, just ask. I'll try to answer.

We are booked in a corner family veranda. I'm so excited about the balcony.

  5. We cruised last November. We stopped in Nassau and Freeport. I had everything loaded on our gps and can you believe we totally forgot to take our gps off the ship with us?!?! Ugh! We are headed to Bermuda in August and will be docked for 3 days. Plenty of time for me to get my head in straight and remember the GPS :)

  6. I am about to strike as well! My question is - because it is a "family" cabin, won't we be more likely to have families with kids? Believe me, I love kids and we have them, but we have been a couple of times with unruly kids out on the balconies at all times of day and don't want to go through that again. Love well behaved kids. It will just be my dh and myself this trip. Plus, we are planning on July of next year. You are probably going to say there is no way of knowing and I guess that is true. Just trying to decide between a C1 and FV as well. We have had wrap balconies on other lines and this is the closest thing for us with Celebrity. Anybody have an opinion on this? Perhaps you have been in one of these a few times and all was well. Thanks for your comments and hope it will help others.

I would say you are more likely to have family's with kids. It's tough to find a room that fits my family of 5. That being said: if you were near us you wouldn't have anything g to worry about. My kids love to relax and start at the sea just about as much as I do.

  7. Funny the way that works. We have been on about 8 cruises, mostly with Holland America, one Carnival. Up until our last cruise last year, we always had inside or oceanview cabins, thought they were fine. The last one I got a fantastic balcony deal and we took it. My husband said "we'll never use it, I don't know why you booked that!". Well now he says "don't book a cruise without a balcony again".

I wasn't sure we would use it either but we were traveling with our 3 kids so I knew I would be spending more time in my room then I would have if they weren't with me. I loved sitting out there. A cheese and cracker plate and glass of wine (or two or three) while staring at the sea. One of the most perfect afternoons spent!

  8. Us too - booked on the Constellation next January. I can't wait. How can we ever go back to regular verandah's?

Our first cruise almost 10 years ago was a inside cabin. Our second cruise this past November was a balcony room. Having this corner veranda is going to completely spoil me! I don't know how we survived a week in a inside cabin!

  9. We have booked Family Veranda room 9197 for our August 24th cruise. I'm pretty excited because I am a HUGE fan of balcony rooms - there is nothing I like better than sitting out there with a glass of wine and just relaxing.

Has anyone stayed in it before? Do you have pictures? Thoughts? Pros? Cons?

  10. We will be purchasing the 3 day bus pass when our ship is in Bermuda. Can someone tell me is it the same price for adults and children? I am assuming it is since a seat is a seat but just want to hear for sure. Thanks!

we will be getting the 3 day pass when we go in August - there are 5 of us traveling. I can't wait to hear about your trip. I've been busy checking things out and making lists of things that we might want to do

  11. Here is a question that I have always wondered but never asked (figured it didn't matter much on carnival). Flip-flops at dinner! I wear lots of flip flops in the summer (I also call them sandals). They aren't the $1, plastic ones from old navy but nice "dressy" ones that look terrific with my dresses and dressy wear (yes even some of my formal wear). Just curious....

  12. Just the dress code, there will be two formal nights, day 2 and day 6. Almost everyone is in shorts during the day, at night most will be dressed up. No shorts in the dining rooms except for the buffet. Jeans are fine in the dining rooms except for formal nights when jackets are required.

We will be perfectly fine then. The girls and I pretty much live in dresses. I'm ready for some sun!!

  13. We have been to Bermuda many, many times -- in fact, it is our favorite cruise destination!!

Here is a great website: http://www.gotobermuda.com/default/. Last time we went with 2 other couples and instead of booking an excursion from the ship, we went ashore and hired a taxi (van). He took us all over the island - to all the places we wanted to see - and it only cost us $75 per couple. We even got to bring back bottles of pink sand! :)

I've been reading/researching and I think that is pretty close to what we will do. We are in Bermuda for 2 nights and there will be 5 of us. We are thinking about getting the 3 day transportation pass and just book everything ourselves. I know we want to do the beach and probably the caves. My son wants to snorkel (and so do I).

Do you have any restaurant recommendations or "must have" food?
