  1. I tried the sea bands but they really bothered my wrists. Dramamine makes me sleepy, but meclizine (Bonine is brand name) works great. Little chewable tablets that taste like baby aspirin, and you can buy them cheap on Amazon. I used meclizine on Navy ships in rough seas and was just fine. I can’t stand the taste of ginger candy so haven’t tried that, nor have I tried the other methods. I get severe motion sickness and meclizine has been wonderful in allowing me to enjoy my cruises without turning green around the gills. 🤢
  2. Haha - never mind my post then - you answered it!
  3. I’m closing in on 4 star but have yet to receive a ship photo. Do you have to go to the photography studio to get it or maybe guest services? 🤔
  4. We appreciate the effort you have put into this thread. I am so excited for my first Rotterdam cruise next month! And after seeing some of your pictures, I realize I saw you on another cruise. Can’t recall which one - a Zaandam or Nieuw Amsterdam wine tasting, maybe 🤔?
  5. When I was on the Prinsendam, one of the entertainers (Melissa Manchester) had a small dog with her. It did not have a vest on. I didn’t see it in the dining room, but did see it in other parts of the ship. I wonder if entertainers have a different rule set? 🤔
  6. No, you both don’t need to buy it. As far as I can recall, the only thing you BOTH have to purchase is the Have It All package. If one purchases it, both parties in the cabin have to purchase it.
  7. Ugh. I bring those little cups of half and half on the airplane because they always want to give you skim milk or that powdered junk. Bleah….😣. Our grocery stores have been out of half and half pints for a long time, so I’ve resorted to using heavy cream. Now THAT’S good in your coffee! The larger containers go bad before I use them all, but they haven’t given me a decent excuse as to why the pints are missing. “Supply issues” - yeah, whatever…
  8. I feel the same way! I have to set them straight the very first night at dinner, otherwise they bring milk and think it’s the same thing. 😒
  9. I’ve been there a couple of times and have only walked around through the big indoor shopping center at the terminal. Found some really nice things there.
  10. Someone is going to wonder, so I’ll ask… Did they have malt for the shakes? Are they covered under the drink plans (I’ll have the Elite pkg this coming cruise)?
  11. I’ll be interested in your pics of congee. I’m not a big fan of rice (and neither is my digestive system), so I might not try that one. However, if it’s well-camouflaged with other ingredients I might be tempted.
  12. Looks like dirty scrambled eggs and a burnt crepe… 🤔. But - I did look up the ingredients and it does sound delicious. Do they have that in the steerage dining room 😉?
  13. I think I’ll try one again in May. Thank you for the excellent research!
  14. My TA forwarded me an upgrade email from Holland America so I was able to upgrade from a standard inside to an OV. This is for the Rotterdam in May. I was pretty happy about that, since I have a travel partner with me this time. Wasn’t looking forward to being crammed into a small cabin with someone I’m not related to - lol! I think it’s between The Rolling Stones room and BB King on deck 1. Hopefully it’s not too noisy, but the music doesn’t play all that late into the night so I think we’ll be ok.
  15. I usually order something other than beef at the Pinnacle. The lamb is good and so is the vegetarian option (can’t recall what it is called). I can get decent steak at home so I don’t usually order it at a restaurant. I had some of the Pinnacle steaks when I first started cruising in 2013 but the quality went downhill after the first time.
  16. That’s how I got some of my military medals - lol. I’ll get mine on the next cruise, so I’ll hang it up with my dog tags and other assorted doo-dads.
  17. Maybe it was just bad timing on my part. I was on the NA in 2022 and they were awful. I can’t recall if I had one on the Zaandam later that fall or not… 🤔
  18. I usually travel solo and would never dream of doing anything with my phone/tablet at loud volume in someplace like that. I look around the room, admire the scenery, check the news on my device, but I do so quietly and respectfully. My phone is always on vibrate mode and all public-address warnings are turned off (except the presidential one, which can’t be). I don’t want to hear anyone’s electronics and I don’t want to disturb anyone with mine.
  19. Please let me know how the painkillers are. Hopefully they fixed the recipe… 🍹
  20. I usually let it run while putting my stuff away. I can glance at it when necessary, and listen when my head is in a closet. But then, even though I have flown many, many times, I still politely watch the flight attendant when they are doing their safety briefing.
  21. I would have tapped my spoon on their table to get their attention and told them to knock it off. I am really sick of people who have no consideration of others. When I was younger I always wondered why old people were so cranky - now I am that cranky old person. We are tired of putting up with inconsiderate boors.
