  1. Passau gauge is at 717cm. The rain in Bavaria is continuing today with tomorrow equally rainy. Wednesday should see a brighter sky again. I have had a look at the river levels in Hungary. There is certainly a big rise in all the graphs but, without being able to relate this to river cruising, the levels do not look critical to me. None that I looked at where reaching a flooding level marking line. notamermaid
  2. I am not sure about the Danube, here on the Rhine I can say that tourism is reduced now, seeing that it is getting cold and rainy. Far fewer people go into nature. But fewer river cruise ships are on docking lists as well, November is just not that attractive. Christmas markets are a big draw everywhere. River cruise ships will be more visible again on the river but I dare say not as many as in summer. People always want to sail the rivers, the season really only ends just after New Year. But the last few years have seen the sailings starting earlier again and some companies even decide to sail in January and February due to demand, just a few itineraries but those dates are out there now if one is interested in sailing then. notamermaid
  3. Yes, quite a change to your - unfortunate - situation then. Pfelling has peaked, Passau is now at 746cm and on flood level 2. The graph: Forecast suggest a further rise and peak just after midnight. notamermaid
  4. Slight change in forecast for the better. If trend continues at Maxau gauge we could see shipping resume a few hours earlier than anticipated last night. Fingers crossed. notamermaid
  5. I myself would not have any details on river traffic beyond Passau. But a lot of water is coming down their way so they will need to "sail through the wave". The particular problem on their route is the low bridge at Passau which would stop them from getting into Passau to dock and sail onto Regensburg. We currently have the situation that the gauges this morning are showing high figures, putting some areas onto official flooding, either level 1 or 2. Passau has also risen a lot again, current level is 683cm. A further rise is expected. Difficult to judge right now how long the situation will last, i.e. when the peak at Passau will be. notamermaid
  6. Pfelling has seen a steady rise during today. Passau has temporarily gone down and is now at 630cm. notamermaid
  7. Basel gauge remains high, as expected. Maxau gauge went down to 762cm yesterday but has gone up again since and is now on 790cm. The level is expected to fall tomorrow but stay above 750cm. After another rise the situation should ease during the course of Tuesday. notamermaid
  8. My pleasure. Unfortunately your attachment is not available. Rhine and Main sounds great. Which company is it? We can then probably look it up on their website. Sorry, I am busy. Short update on the river later. notamermaid
  9. I do not want to go on about it, but I think we can all agree that the incident is major and more than a bit annoying... Deutsche Welle finds it noteworthy and important enough to write an English article. Helmsman (woman), not captain, when the accident happened: https://www.dw.com/en/germany-drunk-rhine-ship-pilot-causes-major-gate-damage/a-67460489 There was talk in the police report of this potentially having an impact on the licence to steer a ship. notamermaid
  10. Passau has peaked and is now at 640cm. This may only be temporary. Tomorrow could look a bit better, but the situation does not appear to ease much soon. Gauges upstream from Passau are rising. Kelheim is on flooding level one. notamermaid
  11. Good question. All speculation at this point but one is allowed to speculate... Most likely the situation will ease, the river hardly ever stays high for a prolonged period. Three days of no rain will bring the river right down again, that is to a high but comfortable level. And the long-term forecast suggests the easing of the situation within five days. This does not mean it will not rain but overall the weather will be more favourable. notamermaid
  12. Yup, as I said, it was bad. This was 2013 at Passau: I have not come across such a graph for Kaub on the internet. Data is collected for Maxau though. Most graphs are for discharge, not level. notamermaid
  13. The devastating flooding on the Danube in that summer... On the Rhine things were bad but not quite as bad. notamermaid
  14. The markings on the old crane, now the Pegelhaus, in Koblenz: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hochwasserschutz_Koblenz#/media/Datei:PegelmarkenRheinkranHäuschen.jpg Historical markings are in almost every village and town along the Rhine and Moselle (and other rivers probably). Here is a gentleman standing next to one, an elaborate bronze scale: https://www.swr.de/swraktuell/rheinland-pfalz/hochwasser-rhein-mosel-nebenfluesse-pegel-schifffahrt-regen-wetter-100.html Just in case the photo changes: That is an interesting shot... I will elaborate with a bit more time. notamermaid
  15. About the question of historical data at Kaub. The website I have consulted in the past has deleted the historical data pages. So I used another one which is actually a bit more straightforward but does not have as many years and therefore I have exhausted my archive. Here is what I have been able to find: Kaub equalling or exceeding 640cm in: January 2011 June 2013 January 2018 February 2021 Kaub gauge is most likely to peak below 560cm on Monday. notamermaid
  16. On Sunday we have Volkstrauertag coming up. A remembrance day. Our government is thinking of introducing a remembrance day for veterans of the army. Have not looked into details yet. A typical November day and I am busy with household and work (reduced work due to low tourism in November) and checking the flooding in Germany. Which you will have noticed. 😉 Have had time for a bit of cooking out of the ordinary though, so made bread and butter pudding with home-made custard. So worth the effort. Have a good weekend everyone. notamermaid
  17. Updated police report says the German-French authorities at Gambsheim - responsible for the Iffezheim lock and the area - are investigating the captain for drink driving. The lock incident is getting a new dimension. notamermaid
  18. Trier is at 660cm. The authorities expect 700cm still, on Saturday. notamermaid
  19. Yes, the steering was almost out so it was very difficult to dock as per newspaper report. Glad to read that they can sail on and Viking was able to react so well to the situation. notamermaid
  20. Sorry, no idea. I only know it does not happen every year. Could try a bit of research but that would take time and is for another day. Bad news from Maxau. Due to the continued rain the level has not dropped enough. River traffic remains suspended. Does not look good for the weekend... Koblenz has closed the parking lots along the river bank(s). To say it in a photo: Look who is thirsty. A Viking river cruise ship is getting fuel. Basel remains on M_I; Worms, Mainz, Koblenz and Cologne are all on M_I now. That is extra vigilance and further navigational measures. Only Maxau is on M_II, i.e. river traffic ban. It is a drab, grey and rainy day today. Typical November weather and it is getting colder but no snow for the valleys, just the high mountains. notamermaid
  21. Sorry to read that. Viking are really trained in the ship swaps, should go smoothly under the circumstances. Passau gauge at 656cm. Too high... notamermaid
  22. Stages are M_I at 460cm and M_II at 640cm for navigational purposes. Statistical mean flooding is at 544cm. Shipping is halted at 640cm. The markers are on the wall: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pegel_Kaub#/media/Datei:PegelKaubRhein.JPG notamermaid
  23. Kaub is at 422cm: That is high but not flooding. Kaub will continue to rise throughout Friday. notamermaid
  24. The Moselle is affected by high water levels. Trier gauge is at 659cm and still rising. At 695cm river traffic is halted. notamermaid
  25. The level at Maxau is still too high, 769cm. notamermaid
