On Conflict Island if you have any interest at all in snorkeling, try to get on the ship excursion out to the pontoon. Very well worth it.

Kiriwina you don't need an excursion as it's all pretty much on the beach. Take some Kina if you want to buy carvings there, there is like a handicrafts shopping mall set up along the main path. Having Kina makes life much easier for the locals.

At Rabaul you can get third party excursions at the port, but the quality varies wildly.

The town of Alotau is pretty much a dead loss for me. I don't bother getting off any more. The scenery is nice though.

Thanks for this, I have booked a tour through Ben’s tours for Alotau, called Alotau Sojourn, fingers crossed it isn’t too boring. It has a bit of everything, sightseeing, some WWll history and a village visit. I am waiting to hear back from Dominic in Rabaul, who has some good reviews about an island hopping tour. Just hoping the rain isn’t too crazy. Forecasts so far for rain and storms every day. No matter what, I will enjoy myself….no cooking, washing, driving etc.

All good. P&O did have a limited range of cigs at some bars. I don't recall the price, but much cheaper than shore. $12/pack of 20 rings a bell, but I am not certain, and I think they are like Princess in limiting bar purchases to 1 pack per day.

Short or long cruise is much the same, although no cigs from the duty free shops on a 3 nighter.

    Thanks for that, very helpful.

I meant that was my observation, as she could leave home for the cruise terminal, at short notice.  Most Americans only get a fortnight holiday!

Right, I wish it was a little closer, I’m about 3 hours, but far better than flying to Sydney. Cruising from Adelaide is looking like a good option too. It’s only a little further and the cruises to WA look appealing, I need warm weather.

I suspected that was the case as I knew of someone who got a free cruise in the USA, because she liked to gamble and lived close to where cruises departed.

Not sure about the close to cruise terminal, of my 6 cruises, 2 of which were on Royal, only 1 was out of Melbourne. I prefer South Pacific cruises and not many of them seem to be out of Melbourne.

  5. WARNING - exclusive offer 😁

I haven’t posted in ages and hadn’t planned on cruising for a while yet, but could not pass up this offer. I’m hoping for the comedy cruise out of Melbourne, just waiting for someone to get back to me.

For those trying to work out why some get these offers, I have no idea, but some information that might be relevant.

My last cruise with P&O was Christmas 2019(phew, just made it). This was a group booking of 6. We did spend a bit of time in the casino, but not a lot of money, my Mum would have spent the most. I drank in there, but I had a drink package. I played the tables and pokies.

The second offer is one I had previously received and missed, big ooops, as it is a better offer.

Pretty sure they are the only exclusive offers I have had.

Just keep in mind whether you want to return to White Bay to pick up the bags and head to the airport, or if it would be better to taken them with you and 'stash' them somewhere closer to where you're spending the rest of the day.

There isn't a lot in the White Bay vicinity to spend the rest of the day on.

Thanks for the heads up, we plan on taking them with us as it will be more convenient. Also no Stasher sites near White Bay 🙄

P&O  as with other cruise lines won't hold your bags. The ship will not hold things from departing passengers, and the cruise terminal is not a ship facility. They also won't hold your bags.

If you are flying with Virgin you can check the luggage in with OACIS when you leave the terminal. They will not only hold it to your flight, but transfer it to your flight and arrange check in for you.

Thanks for your answer, we are leaving from White Bay terminal, do you know if there is baggage storage nearby?
    Thanks again

  8. My family and I are cruising from Sydney on P & O, we are flying in from Melbourne. We have transfers booked through P & O. When our cruise is over, our flight isn’t until 10pm. Does anyone know if we will have to take our baggage with us when we disembark or will P & O keep our bags at the port until we go to the airport. Just trying to see if we need to organise bag storage.

    Cheers

  9. We wear lanyards as it is easy and convenient, but I make them. It’s easy and cheap and you can have any colours or design you like. These are some I made for our last cruise.
