Has anyone been in a penthouse cabin on Grandeur and can comment on noise (or lack of)?

We were in Penthouse 743 on Grandeur in January and very rarely heard our neighbors. No more than usual.

  2. On last year’s Grand Asia, we got an invitation once on board for a nice lunch with a Geisha presentation and a sake tasting at an historic property. We cancelled that day’s excursion because this was so much better. Plus our cruise returned to Kobe a couple of weeks later.

Chartreuse is changing their menu every few weeks.  This is the second installment.

    Entrees and Desserts erts

    Cherry Tomato Goat Cheese Tart

Love that they are changing up the menu and offering new items. BUT the fact that the Mushroom soup is no longer on the menu makes me sad. My favorite!

There is a lot of space in the Superior/Concierge suites on the Explorer/Splendor, and I assume Grandeur. I like layouts better in those than in Penthouse suites on the newer ships. There are definitely more usable and convenient drawers, and there are shelves next to both sinks in the bathroom. The living room area is very big and mostly empty. Ask for an extra chair when you board.

Asking for an extra chair is a great idea. I never thought of that.

After selecting excursions prior to the cruise using the descriptions found on line, be sure to look at the errata sheet that will be in your cabin with updates.  At times these updates included a change in the activity level of the tour.

This is good advice. Along with a change in the activity level, sometimes they have assigned you a different time than the one for which you signed up. Always check your tickets against your own copy of excursions.

  6. I understand that enrichment speaker Brian Unger and his wife Wendy are joining you for this leg of the WC. He's very entertaining as well as informative. The best speaker I've ever had at sea. Don't miss a lecture and if you do, be sure to watch over the in-house TV. Enjoy!

  7. On the Grand Asia Exploration last year, Explorer docked at Laem Chabang overnight Feb 25-26. We weren't planning to take the 2-hour bus ride into Bangkok but changed our minds at the last minute. And are so glad we did. The Grand Palace was magnificent. Figured we may never get back that way again, so we are happy we went -- exhausted, but happy. Since you'll be in Bangkok early, you may be able to do this in advance without the LONG bus ride. We have friends who did the Sanctuary of Truth and really enjoyed it. We also did the Pattay Floating Market. Not sure I'd recommend it. It's a "created market" for tourists. Bill called it "Disney-fied". 😂 But it had some interesting shops and food stalls. Jealous of your trip this Spring. We LOVED our Asia trip. Fingers crossed you'll see cherry blossoms.

    A big +1 on that!

There was a "seafood extravaganza" on the pool grill at lunchtime which was very nice.

The movie, "The Burial" was shown in the Constellation in the afternoon but since this movie is available on Amazon Prime, I decided to defer watching until I get home so that I could spend my precious cruise time on more productive endeavors. Like napping on the pool deck.

Dinner at Chartreuse was a bit of a mixed bag.

Jeannie had the Beetroot Salad which is always good

I was fascinated with "crispy escargot", so had to try it. This is what it looks like

    Hah?
But yes, there is escargot in there

The dish tasted very good, but for me, there was way too much bread and too little escargot. I think I'll stick with the CR version from now on.

The mushroom soup in Chartreuse is not to be missed ; the Grandeur version seems to differ from that of the other ships in that it contains "egg yolk confit", which made this soup even more flavorful.

The Dover Sole was a little disappointing, it was thicker and less moist than the one we had in CR.

The Beef Tenderloin Rossini is, IMHO, the best cut of beef that Regent offers.

The final production show, also new on the Grandeur, was, "Ignite the Night ".
This show featured the dancers of the cast, the fabulous singers were present to more or less support the dancers.
I have honestly never seen anything on a cruise ship quite like this one. I am no expert in evaluating the dancing arts, but I thought that the quality and creativity of the choreography and of the performance rivals  any that I have seen anywhere.
And whomever is responsible for the lighting and the design of the projected scenery should get an award, the stage is a 45 minute visual delight.

If you are cruising on Grandeur, and only see one show - to be clear, I strongly recommend seeing all of the shows - but if you only see one, make it this one.
    You won't be sorry.

We spent 28 days on Grandeur last month and I wholeheartedly agree with your post. Particularly about the excellent Tenderloin Rossini and Ignite the Night. The best I have ever seen on any ship. Thank you and @kjbaconfor your commentary. I've enjoyed traveling with you and can't wait to board Grandeur once again in August for a transatlantice from Barcelona to NYC.

I think that any of the seats that are in front of the posts and are not way off to the side are just fine.

I second the motion of @papaflamingofor arriving at 9:15, in addition to picking seats it will give you time to order drinks if you wish. They stop taking orders when the show starts, and they start promptly at 9:30.

BTW, the current production cast on the Grandeur is as good as I have seen!

And I love seeing drink servers Dinara and Margarita in your photo. Two of our favorites!

I agree with arriving at 9:15pm AND that this is one of the best production casts I've ever seen. Plus, the new shows are a refreshing change. Marauder's Ball is a fun pirate themed show, which features a ship they build on stage.  Loved everything about Grandeur except the theater seating configuration. The middle rows are almost impossible to enter once people sit on the ends. The moveable red chairs butt up against the immovable cocktail tables. I watched people actually climb over and stand on the bench seats to enter the middle seats. 🙂 But usually they stayed empty. Removing cocktail tables from the red-chair-row could be a solution. And possibly installing permanent "cocktail shelves" on the back of the bench seats.

  11. Hi BIll,

Here's a contribution for Grandeur 743 -- Penthouse C. This ship is beautiful. Food was outstanding and service amazing. Regent still can't get the theater right -- those damn red chairs and unmovable cocktail tables make certain rows impossible to enter. But that's the only fault we saw. 99% ain't bad. Hope you get to sail her soon.

The description of this excursion does not say BYO mask and snorkel. Assuming then that they are provided. Has anyone done this excursion? I have gone on 2 snorkeling excursions from a Regent ship in the Caribbean and I have been disappointed with the experience. Too many people crowded and mucking up the visibility. I want to give it another try, but I'm looking to hear from anyone who has done this in Coron. Will be on the Explorer next month. Thank you

Did this last year while on the Grand Asia Exploration. Best snorkeling I have ever done. They have equipment and only use small boats so only 10 passengers or so. Highly recommend.

Our major criticism of the cruise was the Panama Canal crossing. This was not our first crossing. On Holland America we had previews, lectures and in room videos about the Canal, the building of the Canal, etc. We also had an “expert” to ask questions about the Canal.

On this cruise nothing. Then we had a heavily accented “guide” narrating from the bridge. After the crossing there was a session with the “guide” in a lounge with minimal room.

This was totally unacceptable. When I spoke with the CD about all my concerns, he said it was too late when they tried to get someone. When I asked about YouTube videos, I got some ***** and bull about licensing and “corporate.”

    Unacceptable.

Actually, we did have an extended lecture on “The Incredible Story of the Panama Canal” by Jeana Rogers on 1/18 at 2pm. Also, the former canal worker who was narrating our crossing had a presentation with Q&A while we crossed Lake Gatun. Sorry you missed it. But I agree we could easily have had several lectures on many aspects of the history and engineering and environment of the canal.

  14. We were on Explorer of 60+ days in Feb-March of this year and found her to be an awesome ship. The public areas are beautiful -- a bity glitzy for our taste but most everying looks like new.  Compass Rose was actually our favorite restaurant. Yet we had friends who never wanted to go there a bad experience and visited Sette Mare nearly every night. Different strokes for different folks. The worst problem seemed to be the tiles on the infinity pool kept coming off. The crew worked hard to keep replacing them. Could possibly be why Grandeur doesn't have an infinitiy pool. The crew, entertainment and ports from Sydney to Tokyo were amazing. In many of the Japanese ports, we were the first ship in the port since Covid.

Nice!! Wish we were staying on board.  But we have Explorer from Hong Kong to Tokyo on Feb. 21 so probably best we get home and change out our clothes. 🤣

See you on board.... drinks in hand! 🍹😎

Awesome. We did Sydney to Tokyo in February/March on Explorer. You'll have an amazing time. Happy to see you'll be going to Hong Kong...it was cancelled on our trip due to increased tension in China.
